How does Cormac reply?
Cormac offers ...favours
Cormac looked away from me. I could tell that he had given up. He was sure that he had been caught, and was going to pay the consequences. I knew Cormac well enough, though, to be certain that he wouldn't give up without a fight. Sure enough, Cormac looked back at me. For a split second, I saw calculation on his face, but it was quickly suppressed, and replaced with consolation.
"I'm sorry", Cormac said.
If I hadn't seen that flicker of calculation on his face, I might have believed Cormac. As it was, I raised a sceptical eyebrow.
"Please", Cormac continued, sounding more ****. "You have to believe me!"
Cormac had dropped to his knees, and was begging now. Although I knew this was all a ploy, Cormac was a good enough actor to be convincing.
"What will you give me in return, if I decide to ignore this little escapade of yours?" I asked.
Cormac hesitated for only a moment.
"I can, ah, offer you some favours?" he said, his answer more of a question in itself.
There was a moment of silence.
"What kind of favours?" I asked.
What does Cormac offer?
