What's next?

Convincing Mason

As Avery stood on Mason's doorstep, her heart pounded with a mixture of apprehension and resolve. Each knock echoed through the silent night, a stark reminder of the urgency of her mission. She knew that time was running out, that her fate hung in the balance with each passing moment.

As the door creaked open, Avery held her breath, steeling herself for whatever lay beyond. Mason's expression was inscrutable, his eyes betraying a wariness born from years of hurt and betrayal. Avery felt the weight of his gaze upon her, a silent accusation that cut through the silence like a knife.

"Mason," she began, her voice barely above a whisper, "please, you have to listen to me."

But before she could utter another word, Mason's expression hardened, his resolve firm as he shook his head in dismissal.

"I don't want to hear it, Avery," he said, his voice tinged with bitterness. "Whatever you have to say, it's too late."

Avery felt a pang of desperation claw at her chest, her words caught in her throat as she struggled to find the right words. She knew that she had hurt him deeply, that her actions had left scars that might never fully heal. But she couldn't bear to lose him now, not when her life hung in the balance.

"Mason, please," she pleaded, her voice cracking with emotion. "I know I messed up, but I need your help. I'm in danger, and I don't know where else to turn."

For a moment, there was silence, broken only by the sound of their ragged breathing mingling in the cold night air. Avery held her breath, her heart pounding in her chest as she waited for Mason's response. "Do you seriously believe I'll buy that?" he asked his tone harsher than before.

Avery's heart sank as Mason's harsh words pierced through her already fragile resolve. She could see the skepticism etched into his features, a stark contrast to the warmth she once knew so well. Her mind raced, searching for a way to break through the wall he had erected between them, to convince him of the truth before it was too late.

"Mason, I know this sounds unbelievable, but it's the truth," she pleaded, her voice trembling with emotion. "I wouldn't be here if I wasn't ****. Please, you have to trust me."

But Mason remained unmoved, his eyes cold and distant as he regarded her with a mixture of suspicion and resentment.

"After everything that's happened between us, you expect me to just believe you?" he scoffed, his voice laced with bitterness. "You made your choices, Avery. I will not let you manipulate me."

Avery grunted as the ring started to burn her flesh, "I need you to wear this and bind me as your pet," she said urgently showing Mason the ring. It was an ordinary silver ring with a simple design engraved in it that seemed to grow, "Or else it will kill me," she added gritting her teeth. Mason frowned in confusion as he saw the flesh around the ring sizzling.

Mason's eyes widened in alarm as he witnessed the distress etched across Avery's face and the ominous reaction of the ring against her skin. The urgency in her voice cut through his skepticism, leaving him grappling with the gravity of the situation unfolding before him.

"What... what is that?" Mason asked, his voice tinged with concern as he reached out tentatively toward the ring.

Avery winced as his touch grazed her hand, the burning sensation alleviated. The ring stopped torturing Avery so as not to burn its future owner. As the burning sensation subsided, Avery let out a shaky breath, relief flooding through her as the ring's torment ceased. She watched anxiously as Mason examined the ring, his brow furrowed in confusion and concern.

"It's... it's a long story," Avery began, her voice trembling with the weight of her words. "But the short version is that this ring wants you. It's been draining my life ****, and if you don't bind me to it soon, it will kill me."

Mason's eyes widened in disbelief, his gaze flickering between Avery and the ring clutched in his hand. He could hardly believe what he was hearing, the gravity of the situation weighing heavily upon him.

"How... how is that even possible?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.

Avery shook her head, her mind reeling with the enormity of the truth she had finally revealed. She had kept the ring's curse hidden for so long, afraid of the consequences of admitting the extent of her desperation.

"I don't know," she admitted, her voice tinged with regret. "But I do know that I need your help, Mason. Please, you're the only one I can turn to."

Mason hesitated, his mind racing as he grappled with the enormity of Avery's request. He had spent years trying to move on from the pain she had caused him, to build a life without her at its center. And yet, faced with the reality of her imminent demise, he couldn't bring himself to turn her away. He let her in and took the ring off of her, he didn't put it on instead put it on the coffee table.

The ring flew across the room and lodged itself onto Avery's finger, she let out a gasp of shock, her eyes widening in disbelief. The suddenness of the ring's movement caught her off guard, leaving her stunned and bewildered.

Mason's expression shifted from confusion to alarm as he watched the ring attach itself to Avery, his mind racing to comprehend the bizarre turn of events.

"What... what just happened?" he exclaimed, his voice tinged with disbelief.

As the ring flew across the room and latched onto Avery's finger, she let out a gasp of shock, her eyes widening in disbelief.

Avery struggled to find words to explain, her mind reeling with the implications of the ring's sudden action. She could feel its grip tightening around her finger, a cold, oppressive weight that seemed to pulse with a sinister energy.

"It... it won't let go," she whispered, her voice filled with dread.

Mason's eyes widened in horror as he realized the gravity of the situation. The ring's true nature was revealed, its malevolent intent laid bare for all to see.

"We need to get it off of you," he said urgently, moving closer to Avery with a sense of urgency.

"You need to put it on," Avery begged falling to her knees in front of him.

Mason took it off of Avery again and put it on this time. As Mason slid the ring onto his finger, a wave of electricity surged through him, sending shivers of pleasure down his spine. In that moment, it felt as if a missing piece of himself had finally been found as if the ring was not just an object but a part of him. The sensation was intoxicating, filling him with a sense of completeness he had never known before.

Avery watched in awe as Mason's expression transformed, his features softened by a newfound sense of calm. It was as if a weight had been lifted from his shoulders, replaced by an inexplicable sense of serenity.

"Mason, are you okay?" Avery asked concern etched in her voice as she reached out to touch his arm.

Mason turned to face her, his eyes bright with an otherworldly gleam. He smiled a warm and genuine expression that seemed to banish the darkness that had lingered between them.

"I've never felt better," he replied, his voice tinged with wonder. "It's like... like everything makes sense now."

"Are you going to make me your pet?" Avery asked hopeful.

"I don't know, you can leave now," Mason said nonchalantly, pushing her out the door, "bye now!" he said with a weird smile closing the door.

"Mason! please," she begged banging on his door. She could feel her vitality being drained, she looked at her watch noticing her skin looked older, she still had six hours left.
