Conversations.

"That could have gone better," Jake said as they sat down.

"Yeah. She's definitely onto us. But my God, that ass! That's how you feel when you look at women?" Sam paused. "I mean, obviously it is. But I was practically salivating!"

Jake blushed. "Keep it down, Sam. We're trying not to draw attention, remember?"

He lifted his cup to take a sip. Sam started to do the same, then stopped herself. "Sorry, I forgot. It's really hard to keep track of all this. Especially since you got me all revved up staring at Cindy's ass." She grinned and punched his shoulder. "We gotta do something about that horniness, man."

Jake blushed, and so did Sam. "Sorry man, that was a little too forward. It's ok, though. Wait, did I just forgive myself?" She laughed. "Look, meet me halfway here. I'm trying to keep up the act that we're not linked together, but you gotta exercise a little self-control."

Jake rubbed his temples with exasperation. "Sam, I know you hear all of my thoughts before I say them, but I'm getting a little frustrated with this one-sided conversation. Let's try just talking like normal friends out in public."

There was a brief pause and Sam shrugged. "Seen any good movies lately?"

"Uh, I don't know. I rewatched Love Actually last week. I think it still holds up."

Sam grinned. "So do I now. Sorry! Normal conversation, right, right. Uh, I like Love Actually too. Wait, should I make a show of disagreeing? Love Actually kind of sucks, dude. I wanna see the new Jason Statham movie, though. I'd watch that guy read a phonebook."

"See, this is what I'm talking about," Jake said. "Just normal friends having a normal conversation. We're talking about movies we like."

"It's weird, though. I feel like I'm lying to you," Sam said. "I actually do find Jason Statham really hot. Or I did? I think I still do since you don't have much of an opinion either way. Shit, I'm bugging you by talking about our connection again. Uh, books? Are you still reading that spy novel?"

Jake laughed. "You probably only remember I was reading that because you can see into my mind. And I finished it last month, but of course you knew that too."

"Now who's bringing up the connection? As long as we're acknowledging it, I can tell you need to pee. Go ahead, man."

Jake shrugged and got up. As he walked toward the bathroom, Cindy eyed him suspiciously. Once he was gone she walked over to Sam's table and sat down.

"Ok, Sam, what's going on?" Sam feigned ignorance, but Cindy wasn't buying it. "You show up with this new guy and you're both acting really weird. You two aren't exactly subtle about whatever it is." She reached across the table and put her hand over Sam's. "Sam, I need to know. Are you ok? Are you in trouble? If this guy's threatening you or causing you problems, we need to get you some help."
