Continued Snooping

A couple of key card uses later, Kate found herself back where she started. Since escaping Chet, Kate had been lucky to not run into anymore Chimera Industries staff. Back out in the office spaced she straightens out her outfit and takes a few breaths before starting to casually walk down the hallway. Her adrenalin was still running a bit high from her escape. She could still feel her heart pounding in her chest. If she was really smart, she'll just find the elevator and make her escape and forget about this place. Find a safer story to work on. Kate did not want to give up on this story. After her brief ordeal, she was sure Chimera Industries was up to something. She did not want to leave their offices empty handed. It would have made her harrowing experience for nothing. Kate was not going to settle for nothing.

Remembering that she was caught when she was snooping around Chet's office by cameras, she decided that going back into that office was a no go. Kate found an open office door. She knocked just in case before peeking her head in. Her plan for if said office was not empty, she would play the new employee that was lost. The office, thankfully, was empty. She slipped in and closed the door behind her before she made a B-Line for the desk.

Kate open the desk drawers, at least the ones that were not locked. She found nothing of interest. She eyed the monitor atop the desk. It was on an idle screen with the Chimera logo floating about. Kate woke the system up by shaking the mouse. Not a surprise, the system was locked and required a login. She thought for a moment, looking around the desk, hoping the office belonged to an old person and they just wrote their login on something. No luck, but she saw there was a card reader under the monitor. Kate fished out Chet's security card and waved it over at the reader. The computer beeped, and the monitor flicked from the login screen to the desktop. Jackpot!

Kate clicked around, opening random files. She could not really read anything as her eyes kept darting up at the door. Kate decided to just grab a bunch of files that she thought was important. She zipped the files up into a compressed file. Remembering that one of drawers had a thumb drive, she rummaged for it before plugging it into the side of monitor. It felt like forever for the compressed file to be transferred over. It was over fifty gigs of information compressed. Kate was lucky the thumb drive was empty and had a 128 gig capacity.

It was finally done. It was time to get out. Kate logged off the computer and made her way to the door. Taking some calming breaths, she slowly opened the door and crept back out into the hallway. She had just stepped out when there was a sharp blow to the back of her head and senses faded. Kate was out before she hit the floor.
