Chapter 46

Return, or go on?
Continue to the meadow
For many reasons, it makes sense to return with Lady Trina rather than without; after all, she IS Kingsguard, and you should have a guard at your side. Thinking of that makes you think of Trina lying beside you in your bed, perhaps leaning up on one elbow as her fingers stroke lightly across your chest, her blossom-like lips curving into a smile as her hand slips down beneath the sheet...
You are **** to reseat yourself in the saddle as the natural result of your imaginings makes your manhood twist inside your trousers, with suddenly insufficient room! Steelheart misinterprets this as a signal to break into a trot, and by the time you slow him back to a walk there is only one more bend before the meadow comes into view. At this point, it seems that it would be more comfortable to walk the rest of the way, and so you pull Steelheart to a stop and slide from his back, proceeding on foot with the horse just behind.
The path turns into the meadow around an ancient oak, its trunk so wide that it would take three men to encircle it with hands clasped. The grassy hill comes into view as you step around the tree, and as you scan the meadow for Lady Trina, a flash of light hits your eyes - the reflection of sunlight off steel.
You stop dead in your tracks, trying to blink away what must surely be a momentary trick of the light! Lady Trina is there, to be sure, with her sword in her hand and black leather boots; and adorned by absolutely nothing else, not even her smallclothes!
You look away for a moment, then back again to convince yourself that your eyes are not deceiving you, even going over in your mind the ride up to the meadow and other events since you woke this morning to be sure you are not dreaming again. But what you see is undeniably real. Lady Trina is indeed in the meadow almost completely unclothed, and apparently she is going through a series of exercises with her sword, movements meant to strengthen the necessary muscles and instill an instinctive memory so that reactions in battle become automatic. She performs the drill as if it were a graceful dance, so light on her feet that it almost seems that her contact with the earth is a matter of choice for her, and that she could just as easily float above the ground. She keeps to the shade, presumably to avoid sunburn, and only the occasional glint of light through the leaves glows off her alabaster skin. Barely twenty yards from you, she faces you almost directly, and surely would have seen you had she not been so focused on her exercise.
And, she is breathtakingly beautiful.
In some corner of your mind still capable of rational thought, you realize that Trina is nearly finished with the exercise, and once she no longer has that to concentrate upon she will certainly notice your presence; it is one of the skills honed by the Kingsguard to observe when someone is hiding nearby, after all. Even if she does not, there is your horse who is already nuzzling your back; Steelheart is accustomed to being allowed to roam free in the high meadow when you come here, and though he is a disciplined horse he is sure to eventually make some sound which will draw Trina's attention!
You could probably leave without being seen, but it would have to be now; otherwise, you might as well step out and reveal yourself, as Trina will spot you anyway if you do not.
Do you reveal yourself, or leave?
