Branch Title: Return Visit

Carol waited until Robert left for the office on a Tuesday morning.

She stood at the front window and watched the black sedan disappear around the corner, then went upstairs and changed. The modest blue dress she had worn to church the previous Sunday was folded away. In its place she chose a lighter summer dress, soft fabric that moved when she walked, and the same white gloves she had worn the night at the motel. She left her wedding ring in the small dish on the nightstand.

The drive to the edge of the city took twenty-three minutes. The Moonshine Motel looked smaller in daylight. The neon sign was still half-dead. Luis’s truck sat in its usual place, a new radiator hose visible under the raised hood where he had been working.

Carol parked beside it and stepped out.

Luis came around the side of the building wiping his hands on a rag. He stopped when he saw her. For a moment neither of them spoke.

“Mrs. Lynch,” he said finally. The title was careful.

“Carol is fine.”

She looked past him at the motel office, then back to his face. “I need a room for a few hours. And I need you to understand that I’m here under the rules of this city.”

Luis studied her. The same quiet, measuring look he had given her the first night. “Your husband know you’re here?”

“No.”

“And you’re still choosing to be here.”

“Yes.”

He nodded once, slow. “All right.”

The room was the same one they had been given before. Thin curtains, a bed that sagged slightly in the middle, the faint smell of old carpet and motor oil. Carol closed the door herself. She did not lock it.

Luis stood near the window, arms folded, waiting.

“I kept thinking about it,” she said. Her voice was steady. “After we left. After we got home. Every time Robert touched me I remembered the way you held me against that wall. The way you didn’t stop when I told you I’d already come. I tried to put it away. I couldn’t.”

She reached behind her and unzipped the dress. It slipped from her shoulders and pooled at her feet. She stepped out of it, still wearing the gloves and heels, and stood in front of him the way she had in the outhouse—open, waiting.

“Under the Dibs Law I’m available to you,” she said. “I’m using that. But I’m also here because I want it.”

Luis crossed the short distance between them. One large hand settled on her hip, the other under her chin, tilting her face up.

“You understand what that means in this city,” he said. “Once you walk in here like this, I don’t have to ask again.”

“I know.”

He kissed her once, hard, then turned her toward the bed.

It was different in the daylight.

There was no drunkenness, no pretense of resistance, no husband sleeping three feet away. Carol braced herself on her elbows and looked back over her shoulder as Luis pushed into her in one long, heavy stroke. The stretch pulled a low sound from her throat. He did not give her time to adjust. His hands locked on her waist and he fucked her with the same relentless rhythm he had used in the outhouse, only now she could watch every detail in the mirror above the dresser—the way her breasts swung, the way her gloved fingers twisted in the sheets, the dark contrast of his body against hers.

“You came back for this,” he said, voice low. “Say it.”

“I came back for this.”

“Louder.”

“I came back for your cock.” The words left her in a broken rush as he drove deeper. “I needed it again. Robert can’t—he doesn’t—”

Luis shifted his angle and she lost the rest of the sentence in a sharp cry. He kept that angle and worked her until her arms gave out and she dropped to her chest, ass still raised, taking every thrust. When she came the first time it was sudden and hard, her whole body locking around him. He did not slow down. He fucked her through it and past it until she was shaking and incoherent, then pulled out, turned her onto her back, and pushed back in while she was still trembling.

The second orgasm left her nearly silent, mouth open, eyes unfocused. Only then did Luis bury himself to the root and finish, flooding her with the same thick heat she had felt that first night. He stayed inside her for a long moment afterward, one hand resting on her stomach, feeling the way her muscles still fluttered around him.

When he finally withdrew, seed followed in a slow, heavy spill.

Carol lay there breathing, gloves still on, legs open, staring at the water-stained ceiling.

Luis stood and reached for his pants. “You can stay as long as you want. Door’s open if any other man under the law comes looking. That’s how it works here.”

She nodded without speaking.

He left her in the room.

Carol stayed another forty minutes. She cleaned up as best she could with the thin towels, put the dress back on, and checked herself in the mirror. Her lipstick was gone. Her eyes were different. She drove home with the windows down and the radio off.

Robert’s car was already in the driveway when she arrived. He was in the study with the notebook open. He looked up when she appeared in the doorway. For a moment neither of them spoke.

“I went for a drive,” she said.

Robert’s gaze moved over her—flushed cheeks, slightly disordered hair, the faint mark on her neck she had not noticed. He closed the notebook carefully.

“Did you.”

“Yes.”

He nodded once, the same slow nod Luis had given her earlier, and returned his attention to the page in front of him.

Carol went upstairs to shower. The water ran hot. She stood under it for a long time, one gloved hand braced against the tile, and already knew she would go back.

End of Continuation – Route: “Proof” → “Return Visit”

Possible next developments:

  • Robert discovers exactly where she went and chooses his response.

  • Carol’s visits become regular; the motel becomes a second routine.

  • Luis begins treating her less like a one-time conquest and more like a standing arrangement under the city’s rules.

  • The quiet war between husband and wife sharpens.
