Confiding in a Friend
Joey woke the next morning to the pleasing sight of his beautiful new girlfriend.

Sure, he knew very little about Liv besides her name and the fact she was hot, but already she felt like a keeper. Last night had been his first time with a woman who completely turned him on and, in his excitement, Joey had let himself down by shooting his load inside Liv after less than five minutes. Nonetheless, he'd assured her it was the best sex she had ever had, and she believed him. That, combined with letting her know that he was exactly her type, meant that Liv was by now completely smitten with Joey.
"Do you really have to go to work?" she asked as she lay naked in his bed "Wouldn't you rather take a day off and fuck me again?"
It was an extremely tempting offer, and Joey could have phoned in with any number of excuses, all of which would have been accepted by Ted. However, he needed to tell someone about what was happening to him. There was only one person he trusted enough to have that conversation with, and she would be in the office today.
"We have the whole evening for that. I need to go and earn my wages now, but once I get back, you're all mine!"
"Looking forward to it already!" Liv giggled happily.
Joey pulled Kayleigh to one side almost as soon as he arrived at work.
"What's up? You look super serious!" she told him as he led her into the break room.
"This is going to sound crazy, but I need to tell someone who'll keep what I have to say to themselves, and I know you would never do me dirty"
"Of course I wouldn't, Joey, but you're starting to worry me" the look of concern on Kayleigh's pretty face was quite evident "What's going on?"
"That gunk I got all over me yesterday, it worked"
"It worked? What does that mean?"
"Anyone will believe anything I say now. Even you"
"Huh?"
"Look, the easiest way to show you what I'm talking about is probably a demonstration" Joey decided "Kayleigh, we're in a rocket flying through space. If you look out the window, you can see Mars"
"Holy shit!" Kayleigh put her hand to her mouth in astonishment as she looked around her "How did we get here? What the fuck! Is that really Mars out there? This is incredible!"
"Kayleigh, we're not on a space ship or anywhere near Mars. We're in the break room at work. I was lying to you"
Kayleigh's eyes widened with amazement as she was brought straight back down to Earth, and the enormity of what had just happened hit her.
"That felt so real I didn't even question it!" the excitement in her voice was palpable "Joey, this is huge!"
"I know, but I'd rather keep it just between us, for now at least" Joey told her "I've always wanted to break a major news story, but not one I'm at the centre of"
"My journalistic instinct is going to really struggle to keep this quiet" Kayleigh admitted "But my friendship with you is more important. I promise I won't tell a soul"
"Thanks, I knew I could trust you"
"Hey!" Kayleigh laid her hand on Joey's arm in a way that, as platonic as the gesture was intended to be, made him semi erect "This is like a superpower you have. Imagine all of the good you could do with it!"
"Good? What do you mean?"
"Think about it, Joey. Look at all of the horrible things propaganda and fake news has made happen throughout history. We could go the other way, and use your new talent to make the world a better place. I'm not sure how off the top of my head, but there has to be a way. Maybe I could come over to yours after work and we could brainstorm it over a bottle of wine?"
What!? That was the first time Kayleigh had ever tried to invite herself over to Joey's place, and wine would be involved? That almost sounded like a date. The whole superhero thing seemed pretty cool too, even if he couldn't quite see it. However, he already had plans.
"I'd love that, but I'm spending the evening with my girlfriend"
"Oh.." Joey thought, or perhaps just hoped, he had detected a hint of disappointment in Kayleigh's reaction to that development, perhaps even a pang of jealousy "I didn't realise you had a girlfriend"
"Well, it's early days but I like her quite a bit" Joey shrugged "We could hang out tomorrow though? I'm pretty sure I can convince Ted to give us both the day off work"
"That's naughty" Kayleigh giggled "But fine. If it's for the greater good, let's do it"
"Perfect, then it's a date!" Joey smiled before catching himself "I mean, not a date but.."
"I know what you meant!" Kayleigh smiled, stroking her friend's arm with affection "Also, thank you for not taking advantage of me"
"What do you mean?"
"A lot of men, if they suddenly had the power you do to effectively control people's minds, would use it to get any woman they know into bed. I appreciate the fact you didn't try anything like that with me. You're a good guy"
"I could never do anything shitty to you, Kayleigh" Joey told her.
It was the first honest declaration he had made in a while.
