As with the part of Restituta, there was also a choice to be made for Gianni. There were arguments for each of the actors. Ed had the youth, Elio had the romance and heroism, and Jason had the determination. I felt a Xenia and Ed coupling looked a bit like cradle snatching, but I might have made a mistake choosing Jason. Jason’s penis is thick but the pyre scene required a suspension of disbelief which Elio’s longer member would not have needed. Of course Jason’s comic ability as he stretched, with aid from our effects department, did help with the ridiculousness of it all.

While the episode was perhaps a bit light on sex, it was a big one for exhibitionism. In this Love Party era, people parading naked through the street was not seen as a big deal, even if in many circumstances it was still technically illegal. As mentioned previously, Fiammetta would have looked so good but many of the Italian extras were delighted to ogle Filomena and Jason. There is always something erotic when people see more than they expect.

Then we had the final scene and while we decided not to show the participants in the act, partly because it would have been physically difficult, I felt it worked really well with Jason in his element.
