In Boccaccio’s work, Dione always tells the last story of the day and, in addition, he does not have to stick to the declared theme. Dione’s stories are of a consistently high quality meaning that no fewer than 6 were to be included in the series. To be fair to the other narrators, our Dione, Elio, only gets to tell 2 of them. This would be the first.

The story in the flashback is mentioned in the original’s version of this tale and it allowed us to reward regular viewers who always like self-reference. Obviously we did not need to reshoot the masturbation but we did have to digitally add the calendar.

Reading through the story, the maid has quite a big part almost rivalling her mistress and our version it is arguably the lead role. Because we had these 2 prominent female characters who were confidantes, I saw it as an ideal opportunity to add a bisexual angle. I was impressed by Kate’s cunnilingus skills not least because I had never had a threesome with her and Jacqui, but I guess women know what to do.

Whenever I think of who should play a maid, my mind always goes to Kate because she has a certain ruddiness of face and a suggestion her diet is not quite so refined as that of the others. For this role she was so perfect that she heavily influenced a scene in the following episode.
