Coming to the rescue

In our town, it's pretty rare that illegal stuff happens. We might get a few drunk drivers or the occasional **** use, but nothing crazy.

I never thought I'd encounter anything myself, but alas, I did.

...

Henry and I were studying in my room when he got the call. I couldn't make everything out, but I could tell it was Emily.

And she didn't sound too good.

I know it wasn't right, but I butter into their conversation.

"Emily, are you ok?" I asked loud enough so she could hear me.

"Rose, I I-I didn't know you were there," she said. She sounded so embarrassed about something.

"Sis, where are you?" asked Henry.

"Sir John's," said Emily. Henry stood up and grabbed his keys.

"I'll be right over," he said. He was about to run out of the door when I grabbed his arm.

"Baby, what's going on?" I demanded. Henry hesitated to answer.

"Emily thinks her date spiked her drink. I'm going to pick her up now," he said. I didn't even hesitate to grab my pepper spray.

"I'm going with you," I told him. I am NOT taking no for an answer.

When we got there, she was sitting against the building with a big man standing over her. As soon as Henry stopped the car, I ran over to her.

"Emily, are you ok?" I asked her. She looked up at me with unfocused eyes.

"R-rose," she said weakly. God, she looks terrible. Henry ran over to us as the big guy spoke.

"You know this girl?" he asked.

"She's my sister," said Henry, kneeling down to her. The big guy looked us over and nodded.

"Good. We locked her date in the cooler. The cops will be here to pick her up soon," he said.

"Come on Emily, I got you," said Henry, slowly helping her up.

"Any idea what she got hit with?" I asked.

"No, but there are cameras everywhere," said the big guy. Emily was able to walk, but was unsteady.

"Get her home and get her water. I've seen things like this before, she'll be fine with rest," said the big guy before going back inside.

Once all three of us were back in the car, Emily spoke up.

"Thanks," she said.

"Don't worry about it. I'm always here for you," said Henry.

"I love you bro," she said before looking really shameful.

"I'm sorry you have to see me like this, Rose," she said.

"Don't mention it. Everyone has bad days," I said. Despite this, I still see her as a total badass.

...

Emily didn't want to face her parents yet, so we took her to my house. I held her hair back as she puked, and tucked her into bed. Once I was back with Henry, he looked sad.

"She's ok baby," I told him.

"I know. She's just been having a hard time. People seem to think that men are bad, but women can be just as bad," he said before wrapping his arms around me.

"Which makes me extra lucky to have you."
