John also left the Illusion Barrier and walked back to his classroom. Apparently, his vanishing had gone unnoticed. ‘Is this also a part of Gaia’s powers or is my Charisma just so low that nobody paid attention to me?’ John wondered as he wandered back to his seat. He was just in time to watch the teacher enter the room and open class.

He didn’t really pay attention to the subject, biology, uncaringly going through the pages of the book that was handed out to at least seem like he was doing something. His mind was elsewhere, with the question that was presented to him by the quest to be exact.

Which Side should he join? He knew next to nothing about either but he had to make the decision. He should gather what little he was sure about.

Moira and her Golden Rose were apparently good guys. She had not hesitated to inform him about the Abyss, had not tried to take advantage of his weakness and even protected him during the attack. Plus she was an exceptionally sexy redhead in Paladin armour and he could probably use a tank. If Rave’s anger at him almost giving out her full name to Moira was anything to go by the Golden Rose was probably also stronger than Collide. Not that surprising seeing that their leader was 'only' level 19.

Collide itself was interesting however. ‘Collide is all about finding interesting uses for their powers’ was what Observe had told him. That sounded more up his alley. They seemed to be a small group of individuals that just wanted to have fun. Also Rave was pretty hot, her tits weren’t particularly big but she had a nice body and long legs. He however had no idea about their morals at large. Rave openly had admitted to eavesdropping on him and Moira and that she and Travolta where on the process of spying on him when the attack happened. What did they want to accomplish with that? He was certain they didn’t want to kidnap him at least because then they could have simply turned on Moira after they had defeated the Wall Shadow.

It seemed to be a very standard choice: The good guys or the bad guys. Of course good and bad were relative terms here but still. Either go with the Golden Rose and be protected from the negative influences whilst becoming part of the moderate part of the Abyss or go with Collide and be more out there but also enjoy more freedom.

There was also the third option: Join no one. That would be the ultimate freedom and risk. John had no idea how much -200 in Faction relationships were but if they only mildly disliked him he could try to get stronger quickly and eliminate the need for help altogether. If they hated him for it however finding and capturing him would be a non-issue for both organizations.

John discarded the third option. He wasn’t willing to take that risk. Also going on the lone wolf route meant that he would get closer to neither Rave nor Moira. He should at least try to get one of these babes when fate already gave him the choice.

It all boiled down to the question of greater freedom or greater security. Pink Rave girl or Redhead Paladin.

As the final lesson’s end was announced by the sounds of bells ringing through the speaker system John had made his choice. He would toss his luck with Collide. Sure, in his position safety may have been the smarter option but he knew that he wasn’t exactly a moral guy. He wanted to fuck as many hot woman as he could get his hands on, if he skilled Charisma high enough he maybe could have his own little Harem. He doubted an organisation that wanted to protect the weak would that kind of behaviour slide.

Therefore, he went up to the roof after packing all his things. It was nice to walk up the stairs without the constant danger of nightmarish mixture of a spider and centipede looking out to crush his bones against the concrete wall.

Once he reached the roof he looked around. There were the ventilator shafts, the sky was clear and the sun reflected brightly on the white tiles of the stone floor. John walked over to the single girl that was up here. She had brown, straight hair and wore the schools uniform.

“So, you decided?” the girl asked. “Yep, I will go with your lot.”

Quest Complete: Pick a Side.

John closed the windows. “Surprised you were able to recognize me though, Gamer.” Rave said and smirked at him, her eyes were almost hidden by a pony haircut. “I wouldn’t have if it wouldn’t be for the status above your head.” John said and pointed upwards. She turned her head but saw nothing. “Huh, I thought being in a group would give me access to all information. Whatevs. Let’s go, I wanna stick the finger to Moira while we walk by her.”

As John follower her back down the stairs he asked. “So, how are you doing this whole Illusion thing?” “Dad bought me an enchanted piercing when I asked for it.” Rave turned to him and stuck out her tongue, revealing a metal piercing near the tip. “Practically this is not an Illusion but minor shapeshifting. I still needed to change clothes though.” She tipped against her school bag. “Isn’t Gaia punishing people for using their powers in public?” John asked. “Nah, Gaia only freaks out when you do something other people find ‘weird’. As I pretty much have always looked like this in public nobody thinks about it as weird.”

So, he could continue possessing girl’s underwear as long as he didn’t move around or did something else that was weird. That was good to hear. “Where are we going?” John asked. They weren’t heading for the main gate. “We are going out the back, dummy.” Rave answered. “Can’t have the Princess see me with you, she isn’t that dense. Especially after your scrawny ass gave away my first name.”

She suddenly stopped and pushed her finger in front of his face like it was a pistol. “If I get caught because of you, Gamer.” She made a loading noise. “Then I take ya with me.” She pulled the imaginary trigger and a small flash of light blinded John for a moment. He blinked away the stars the light had left. “Name is John by the way.” He said, it was the best he could think of. “Yeah, I can read. The party menu is still open.” Rave dismissed him and they left the school grounds to go to Collide’s Headquarter.
