Ross rifled through the small case of modifier scripts, looking for something interesting.

"Hmm... we've got submissive, robotic, depressed- there's one in here that gives you the hiccups!"

The golem wrinkled her nose. "Why would you want that?"

"I don't," he replied testily. "I just thought it was interesting. Oh, what's this? It just says Fourth-Wall Breaker."

The golem shrugged. "Show it to me and find- huh. Wow. It, uh, does what is says."

"What do you mean?" Ross asked and the golem gestured to you.

"It means I'm aware of the reader and the fact that we're in a fictional story. In fact, I even know that this is a small collection of vignettes that aren't necessarily canonical but follow the characters. I haven't even been named yet, since that might spoil some details of the main branch. I'm just 'the golem'."

"What the fuck are you talking about?" Ross demanded. "We're not fictional."

The golem rolls her eyes and shrugs at you. "Doesn't matter. I did what the author wanted me to, now it's time for some short stories. Enjoy, folks!"
