Chapter 79 by amon_Baal amon_Baal

Work day.

Coffee with the new recruits.

Steve worked through the morning, distracted and excited about his date with both Kaya and Jan, around 10:30 he decided to take a break and grab a coffee with Amat and Keron.

He quickly searched the employee database to find what areas they worked he left his office and proceeded to collect them and let their supervisor know that he was going to grab a coffee with them as he was going to be their mentor for the program.

As they took the elevator down he couldn’t help but smile, “A little uncomfortable Keron?”

The satyr man seemed to shift uncomfortably, “Sorry, these leggings are not designed for someone like me.”

Steve nodded, “You mean because of your legs being a different shape?”

He nodded, “That and my tail I think, though it also a little uncomfortable elsewhere as well.”

“Hmm, what about you Amat? Are you comfortable?”

Amat shook her head, “I am comfortable in a skirt, it doesn’t rub badly, but I tried pants and it was uncomfortable.”

Steve nodded, “Alright, I will talk to our finance people, see if we can get some funds to help have suitable work attire tailored for you. So I can try and get them on board, can I ask what you would traditionally wear?” He asked as the doors to the elevator opened.

Amat was the first to speak, “Traditionally loose fitting dresses, I think you would call them sun dresses here.”

Steve nodded as Keron said, “Well, we, a lot like your neighbours, we don’t really wear very much.”

Steve held the door as the others exited. He gestured to a table in the café in the lobby, “Do you know what coffee you want?”

After placing their orders he returned to the table. “So Keron, you are in one of the admin sections, are you liking it?”

He shrugged, “It seems very repetitive, but it’s alright I suppose.”

“Welcome to working life, try and make sure you have plenty of things going on outside your job. And you Amat, you are working in the customer service and enquiries.”

She nodded, “I get a lot of questions about my accent, is that normal?”

Steve quietened as the coffees were delivered, “People do sometimes wonder about where people come from when they don’t speak like their neighbours, so yes it’s not uncommon.” He paused a moment thinking about where to take this, “So I’m going to be mentoring you, so if you have any issues, or questions about work but I was wondering if you knew what you wanted to get out of this job?”

The next half hour was talking about mundane business ideas before they returned to the office.

After they returned to the office Steve went to talk to his boss, Madeline was typing at her computer when he entered, “Steve, how are our Mythfolk recruits doing?”

“Actually,” he began, “that’s something I wanted to talk to you about. You have probably noticed that they are not built like human’s so apparently the standard workwear isn’t comfortable for them. I was hoping we could find some money to get something suitably tailored, especially if either of them is going to be in a public facing position.”

Madeline steepled her fingers as she did when she was calculating something. “I will check with accounting and we will find some money, not going all out, but a couple of suitable pieces which would be comfortable and versatile we could probably do. Put a proposal together and have it on my desk tomorrow.”

That afternoon.
