Chapter 6 by Eugene_Oregon Eugene_Oregon

What's next?

Clothes destroyed!

Jemma jumped when her pocket started buzzing.

Pulling out her tablet, she noted with alarm that there had been a sudden and unexpected power surge...and Daisy was right in the middle of it!

Jemma started running, tapping on the screen to try to ascertain what happened.

"D-Daisy!" Jemma panted, skidding around the corner.

Everything appeared normal.

But wait, what was that? The alien medical scanner had moved position on the table, and in the middle of the floor was a small pile of ash.

Jemma ran over, panicking.

"Daisy!"

The ash trickled through her fingers. Was this all that was left of her friend?

A low whimpering caught her attention. Jemma followed the sound, cautiously.

"Hello? Who's there?"

"I-it's me," a small voice responsed.

"D-Daisy?" Jemma looked around, but saw no one.

"I...I'm right here."

Jemma pulled out her torch. She shone it in all directions, but all she saw was boxes and shelves.

"I...I'm invisible," Daisy's small voice said into her ear, making Jemma jump.

"Hey! Wait-you're invisible?" Jemma asked once she had her breath back.

Understanding dawned across her face. It wasn't a medical scanner, it was an invisibility ray!

"Thank goodness you're OK!" Simmons gushed, "when I saw that pile of ash, I thought..."

"Well, that's the other problem," Daisy continued glumly. "I tried to reverse it and, well..."

"Well, what?" Simmons asked, cocking her head, confused.

"It...I tried to reverse it, but it turns out the box does other stuff as well."

"Like what?" Jemma asked, suddenly fascinated, pulling out her tablet and excitedly tapping away.

"Well it...it...errm..."

"Oh come on Daisy, spit it out!"

"It only turns living things invisible. On the wrong setting it will destroy everything else."

"Really?!"

"Yeah. So, you see my problem."

"Of course. But don't worry, I'm sure we can find a way to make you visible again." Jemma said, matter-of-factly.

"No, the other problem."

"Other...problem?"

Daisy wanted to scream. How was her friend not comprehending this?!

"People wear clothes. Clothes aren't living things."

"Correct," Simmons replied proudly, as those Daisy was a kindergartener.

"...and the machine destroys things that aren't living things."

"Yes, yes, you said that."

"Why do you think you can't see where I am, bearing in mind it doesn't turn clothes invisible?" Daisy asked, exasperated.

Simmons consulted her notes. She must have missed something obvious. Something staring her in the face.

"Because...because...because you're not wearing anything!" Jemma declared excitedly.

"You're...you're not wearing anything..." Jemma fought the smile that was threatening to break out across her face. "That means you're...you're..."

"Naked," the invisible girl confirmed.

Simmons held her hands over her mouth after letting out a girly giggle.

"Sorry!"

"Don't laugh, you've got to help me!" Daisy pleaded, glad that the Brit couldn't see her blush.

"So that pile of ash was your clothes?"

"Oh, very astute!" Daisy applauded sarcastically. "I bet it took all of your PhDs to work that one out. Now give me your jacket!"

But Simmons was once again distracted, walking back over to the box.

"Hmm...if we can get this translated, I should be able to change you back."

Jemma bagged up and labelled the box and placed it with all the other artifacts they would be taking back to base.

"I don't know where you are," Jemma called out. "But I'm going to finish logging the rest of the items here. I shouldn't be too much longer."

Daisy was dismayed as she saw the scientist walking back into the labyrinth.

"Simmons, wait!" Daisy pleaded, hurrying after her.

Was Jemma seriously going to leave her like this?!
