Chapter 2
by OliviaPope
Who do we follow?
Christina
"Weird," Christina thought to herself as she read the name of her freshman roommate: Jillian McAnally. "That doesn't sound Black to me."
Christina shrugged and decided it wasn't worth her time to think about the details. She had other things to focus on, like how to find out the reading list for her classes before they were posted so she could get a head start on the class. The only way to outrun a tiger, her mother had always told her, is to just be faster than the other people running. Every small advantage Christina got over her classmates would put her one step closer to cum laude, or even magna cum laude or summa cum laude, and getting into a top medical or law school.
She hadn't decided yet which to focus on, so for now she was planning an aggressive course schedule of both biology and chemistry courses for medical school and English and political science for law school.
And these stupid politically correct electives. Christina sighed.
"Interracial Studies 101? What bullshit," Christina mumbled under her breath as she began to unpack in her room. Having gotten there earlier than Jillian she had already claimed what she thought was the better bed in the room. The desk next to the bed was closer to the main outlet in the room and even on the bed she could stretch the power cord to her laptop so she could do work in bed. She would spend a lot of late night hours awake in bed getting ahead.
"You must be Christina!"
Startled, not hearing the door open, Christina looked up and was surprised at the sight before her. No, not Black at all. Instead she saw a girl with long red hair down almost to her ass. Her ass! Even from the front you could see the curves. Talk about childbearing hips. Christina pushed that thought out of her mind, not wanting to dwell on how the woman in front of her had curves while she was thin.
"Hi, you must be Jillian," Christina responded.
"You can call me Jill! I'm so excited to be your room mate this year!" Jill was almost bouncing with excitement.
"I'm sure we will be best of friends," Christina lied. She wasn't in college to make friends. But she could win over Jill and find if she had anything to offer before deciding if she wasn't worth the time.
"Sorry I'm late, I always seem to run behind schedule. I heard there was a mixer on the main floor that's about to start, do you want to go down?"
Christina paused, pondering if she had the time to waste on social interactions. But maybe scoping out the competition would be worth it.
Does Christina go to the mixer?
