Chillin' With Selena Part 2

I think about what Selena just said. Yeah that does suck. From the moment we're born there's paperwork about us. Birth certificates, social security numbers,school records. The list goes on.

"Yeah Selena it does suck the amount of identification we now have to have but there is one advantage to now over yesterday. People aren't as superstitious as they used to be. Folks don't believe we exist anymore. That makes it easier to hide our true nature. If someone were to go to the police and tell them that we're vampires they would at the very least be laughed at. At worst they would be committed to a psychiatric ward."

Selena considers what I said. "Yes you're right being thought of as pure fiction does have it's advantages. My maker Elena had it way rougher than me, her being born three hundred years before me especially where she was born. Paranoia about vampires was widespread back then. They were still burning people for witchcraft and heresy after all."

I have to ask." Are there things that you miss about being a human?" She thinks for a second. "Some things yes. I used to miss my family but they've been dead now for centuries, well my immediate family anyway. I would say the one thing I still miss the most is eating human food. Sometimes Juan will be cooking one of his meals in the kitchen and oh does it smell delicious so yeah I miss that. I can't really think of anything else though. How about you?"

"To be honest no. I've been too busy learning the ins and outs of being a vampire to think about it. It also hasn't been long enough since I've seen my family. I do occasionally wonder how they are and what they're doing but I don't dwell on it." Selena takes a look at the clock.

"We better close up the blinds and drapes and get to bed. The sun will be up soon."

And so Selena and I call it a night and prepare to sleep for the day and awaken at dusk.
