Chapter 6

What Is It?

Chicken

The creature that had terrified you just a moment ago is... a chicken. Yes, a latex chicken, but a chicken nonetheless. In fact, aside from its general shinyness, it's completely average. Plain old yellow beak, normal yellow feet, ordinary white feathers, mundane redhead... thingy. Hell, were you really scared of this a second ago? The thing looks like the most horrible thing it could do is give you some bad eggs!

Ironically, that's exactly what it does. You hear the slight rustling of a squirrel moving through the trees, and the second you do the chicken rolls back and literally fires an egg at it. The egg explodes on contact with the branch the squirrel stands on, quickly enrobing the poor creature's lower body with thick white latex. As it falls to the ground in shock, you see the latex quickly take shape as the lower body of a hen that's completely proportional to the squirrel, and as it hits the ground it barely manages to stumble away on its new chicken legs.

As for the chicken itself, it's gone back to just sitting there, leaving you to contemplate the situation. It didn't shoot until the squirrel moved, so you have time to think things through if you just standstill. Okay. For starters, the egg it shot was only enough for half a squirrel. It wasn't a direct hit, but (assuming, HOPING, that all the eggs hold the same amount of latex) even if they all hit you dead-on you know it'd take several to coat you entirely. Then again, what about the rate of fire? It shot only one egg last time, but what if it could shoot several really fast? It could've caught you before you even managed to take two steps!

So, you're faced with a decision. You can either hope it has only one size of an egg and a few shots and makes a break for it, or you could try to wait out something that may be capable of sitting there for years. Yeah... this is not your night.

What Do You Do?
