Being head of a department had its highs and its lows, its crises and its minutiae. Today was a crisis. One of the professors had resigned and they now had to find a replacement to cover the classes for the fall semester. Being stuck in the cabin on conference calls all morning was not his idea of fun.
He was distracted though, and his mind kept drifting back to the night before, and a few years before. He knew he was a well built, good looking guy. And, more than one female student had tried to draw his attention, whether they needed the grade boost or not. But, he had always resisted them, until her. What drew him to Bianca so much was that she was actually interested in his mind and showed no inclinations into trying to seduce him. She came to him for help on papers and they grew closer. If she had ever hit on him, his defenses would have immediately gone up. He figured the same was true with her. If he had ever made a direct move she would have rejected him immediately.
But it was never like that. Instead there was a moment, just a moment where their hands touched and then their cheeks and then their lips. A passionate make out session followed. He wanted her, she wanted him, but it wasn't to be. At a follow up appointment she laid the law down and it wasn't going to happen. She was right saying he had run from her, he did. Sabbatical was an excuse, an escape from the temptation. Then he had met her... his now wife.
He had never expected for the old feelings to rise like they had this week, especially the night before. Even as he held her, the way a father might hold a daughter, he could only think about how badly he still wanted her... but it couldn't be. He loved his wife. And Bianca was now best friends with his step-daughter.
The only good thing that could come out of this crisis is if it forced him to leave the retreat. The last thing he needed was more temptation. Ugh, he just remembered he had Makayla wanting to meet with him tonight. More than anything he needed a break. As soon as this call was over he was getting away from everything to clear his head.
