What next for Steven?
Check out the changes and see the next question
Steven went to the staff room, and went to the bathroom to look in a mirror.
He now had two earrings. Small, strawberry golden loops, just big enough to have a small gap beneath his earlobes.
Steven started hyperventilating.
What was going on? How the fuck did this app do this? Where did those earrings come from? Why was his head spinning?
He stood still, trying to catch his breath and his mind, for a solid five minutes before he realised that his eyes were no longer brown.
* * *
Steven came to a couple of minutes later. He was on the hard tiles of the bathroom floor. His left shoulder hurt, where he had landed on it, and he had a bruise by his left eyebrow. The lights made a just barely percievable buzzing sound.
Steven slowly got up, and slowly looked in the mirror. Hazel eyes.
... and earrings. They looked... nice? But they were all wrong on his ears, next to his limp brown hair. He felt just a little bit nauseous.
He spent the rest of his shift in a daze. The rest of the evening as well: he told his roommate Lisa that he felt ill, and she left him alone to go to his bed. His other roommate Jess wasn't in.
He went to bed without eating dinner.
He almost didn't charge his phone.
He hadn't looked at it since The Earrings. He couldn't bear to. It was too much. His phone had That App on it, and That App was just about the most dangerous thing that Steven had ever experienced.
It wasn't just magic, it was Black Magic, of a completely unpredictable and unreasonably powerful kind. Who knew what sort of twisted mess it might make of him? He was terrified.
He wasn't sure why he even kept his phone. By rights, he should throw it in a dumpster, or better yet an industrial shredder.
But he kept it, and he charged it overnight.
That night, Steven had extremely vivid dreams, difficult to remember and harder still to explain. Dreams with extremely tactile sensations; dreams full of colour and a fluid sense of where he was and what he wanted to do. The one thing he remembered was that in these dreams, he actually wanted things, and tried to get them.
Steven woke up. Numbly he stood up. Lisa was already gone: it was 10am. Steven had slept 13 hours.
It was a good thing he didn't have to work until 1pm.
Steven ate his breakfast like a robot, if robots ate breakfast: efficently and without enthusiasm.
He went to get clothes to change into before he went for his shower.
His phone was there.
He unlocked it, almost full of dread, but with enough morbid curiosity that he couldn't help looking.
He opened the app. It had a question.
Would you get a full head of wavy hair for 300$ ?
How does Steven react?
