Check in on somebody

When you wake up, it's already mid-afternoon. Crime fighting is not as easy as you thought it was going to be, even with your magical powers.

Drowsily, you step into the shower. As the warm water pours out through the high pressured shower head, you replay the events of last night in your mind. The crimes you had prevented were all pretty insignificant. Nothing a normal beat cop couldn't do. You need to up the ante to become a superhero. At the same time, you also feel slightly guilty at the last victim. Elena Zlunic. You had gone down a dark path, and there was no coming back.

You get dressed and go downstairs to the kitchen, looking for something to eat. The kitchen is well stocked. Olivia must have done that, though she is nowhere to be seen. Munching on some crackers and chips, you look at the news on your phone. There were a few mentions of The Ringer. It was on social media where people had really picked up on your exploits. You were trending! Scrolling through the mentions, most of the commentary is positive. People were posting pictures of your symbol. There was even graffiti art that was freshly painted near one of the sites where you had stopped a robbery.

"YES!" you yell, pumping your fist in excitement.

"Yes?" you hear from behind you.

It was Olivia. She was wearing a red dress, with a matching red bow in her hair and red shoes.

"Oh. Hi Olivia."

"You were out late last night. Where have you been?" she asks, arms crossed.

"I was just out. Nothing to worry about. Are you going to class?"

"No, it's almost three. I just got back," she replies. "I've moved all of my stuff in, do you want me to send movers to your place? What are you doing for the rest of the day?"

"I have plans, but the movers would be nice."

You give Olivia instructions to your house, and send a note to your parents and sister. You're still thinking about Elena, and decide to go see how she's doing. Using the magic rings, you freeze time and teleport downtown, where you hail a taxi. You have her address, but you can't teleport directly there yet.

It turns out to be a nice apartment building near the banking district. You remember she lives in the penthouse apartment. She must be rich. It's one of those buildings with a doorman outside. He lets you in when you say you're here to see Elena. The problem is, she doesn't know who you are, and you don't want to knock on her door, so you sneak into a corner of the lobby and activate the invisibility ring. Next, you go over to the concierge's counter where a middle-aged woman is manning the desk. Usually in these kind of buildings, there is a master key so that apartment repairs or maintenance can be carried out at the convenience of the residents.

Searching quietly, you find what you're looking for in the back office. On a wall are keys to every apartment in the building, and you take the one in the top right corner from its hook. There's also a key fob next to the keys, so you grab that as well. Back in the lobby, you jump into the elevator by yourself, and take it up to the top.

Once you're in front of Elena's door, you freeze time and use the key to enter. If she sees the door unlock and open by itself, that would have certainly given her a heart attack. Seeing nobody immediately, you close the door and restart time while staying invisible. It's a very nice and spacious place, with a mix of modern art and antiques around the apartment. Wandering around, you look for Elena. You hear the sound of water from the bedroom and head that way. Her purse and phone are on the bed and the shower is running.

You try the knob to the bathroom. It's unlocked.
