Check in on Beth.

Joseph stood awkwardly in his own foyer. He began to dress himself again while Kat cleaned up. He realized that Beth was presumably still in the living room. He stuck his head in, hoping she had passed out.

No such luck. She grinned drunkenly at him and winked. "Sounds like you guys had a nice time. I'm jealous."

She clambered up into a sitting position and he sat glumly next to her. She started rubbing his back, sensing that he needed comfort. "What's wrong, babe?"

He turned to her in disbelief. "Babe? Did you just call me babe?"

She frowned. "Yeah, of course I did. Isn't that what you want?" He briefly thought about how cute she looked when she was concerned.

"Yes. No! I don't know!" He said with exasperation. "I don't know what's going on with you! All of a sudden you're acting like my girlfriend! And Kat just had sex with me! Am I losing my mind? This could ruin both of our friendships. Oh God, I messed everything up! Why did I do this?"

She shushed him soothingly as he buried his head in his hands. "It's ok, you didn't do anything wrong. We both wanted this. Joseph, sweetie, we want what you want. We want you to feel good and to be happy. That's all that matters to us. To me."

"Why? Why is that all that matters? Beth, why are you suddenly acting like this? It's like all you care about is making me happy!" He was near tears at this point. Beth smiled patiently and put her hand on his knee.

"I don't know what happened or why it happened. I just know that making you happy is the only thing that matters. As long as you're good, I'm good. Ok? Same with Kat. We talked about it before and we both just want you to get what you want."

"Wait a minute, you talked to Kat about this?" He gaped at her.

"We texted a little bit. Jake, how do think she was so wet when you started? She jilled herself off the whole way over here so she'd be ready for you. She just wanted to make you feel good! Aren't you listening? That's all either of us wants." She kissed him briefly, then took his hand in hers. "Just let us make you feel good, Jake."

Kat stepped into the room, startling him. She was dressed again and starting to catch her breath. "She's right. I don't know why this happened. I just know that I want you to be happy more than anything. If there's anything I can do, please tell me."

"This is crazy!" Jake was still rejecting the idea. "What if I told you to- to rob a bank? To kill each other? To jump off a bridge?"

Kat spoke up again. "We're not stupid, Jake. We know you don't really want any of that stuff. If I was really and truly convinced, though, I'd do anything. If I really thought it was what was best for you I'd kill myself or someone else without a moment's hesitation." Beth nodded in agreement.

Joseph stared at Beth. Dating her was his greatest fantasy. His heart ached every time she laughed or smiled or cracked a joke. He wanted her so badly, and now he had her. So why should he stew in guilt over it? For the first time that night, he smiled. Her relief was palpable as she saw him finally accepting the situation. He placed a hand on her cheek and leaned in for a kiss.
