Check downstairs

"I really don't like the idea of leaving the downstairs open. Can we at least check it out?" I say.

"There's no point. They have to come through here anyways."

"Just humor me please. Last thing we need is for them to come up from below us." I counter.

I see a couple of them glance at the floor they stand on and get a little worried.

"Fine. Just go look real quick. But I want you back up here for the real fighting."

I nod and he gestures for another guard to come down with me. I open the door to reveal a dimly lit stairwell. I walk down the stairs with a guard close behind me.

As our eyes adjust to the darkness I draw my shield and infuse it with some minor holy magic to light up the more open lower area of the cathedral.

Staring back at me with various expressions of surprise are a couple of undead with more climbing out of the water.

"Oh shit..." I hear the guard behind me mutter.

This was bad, but we had the element of surprise. We can try and fight them together or maybe we should retreat. I could also just hold the stairs. It's narrow and with my shield I had the advantage there.
