Background

As far back as men can recall, the Seluna family name has been synonymous with the title Lord of the March. In the eyes of elves they remain an upstart house, only in their second generation of power. Their title, a reward for loyal service to the king, grants them dominion and stewardship over the elven border, where the green forests give way to the golden plains.

They and their subjects are considered somewhat rough and uncouth by other elves as a result of their frontier manners, though such subtleties are lost on the human traders who regularly caravan to their lands and consider the family to be the picture of grace and refinement. Of course, this frequent commerce with humans is one of the chief sources of suspicion from their fellow elves.

Whatever else they might think of the marcher elves, neither man nor elf would ever question their prowess with horse and bow, their skill with both having been honed by constant patrols of the plains.

This was the family that Marinelle was born into. The necessities of the frontier dictated that she had been raised in the saddle every bit as much as her brother, even if he was the one destined to inherit their father's title. A natural scout, she had quickly proven her value even at a young age (by elf standards), becoming her father's most trusted eyes and ears for tracking what happened beyond their lands.
