Chapter 6: Last Chance
Continued from chapter 5:
Marisol met my eyes, her voice steady and low. "We do. Whatever is required to make it right."
"Full marks to Brielle and Nell," I said, letting the praise hang for a beat. "Roxie, Marisol? What happens to naughty girls?"
The distinction was deliberate. I wanted to see how the two would handle the pressure of being singled out.
Roxie’s fists clenched. Her lips curled downward, and she gave a slow, almost imperceptible shake of her head. She wanted to rage, to spit, to refuse—but she’d already lost. She looked at me, and for the first time, I saw the spark of real fear behind the anger.
"They get... disciplined," she muttered. The word tasted like acid on her tongue.
Chapter 6:
I smiled, gentle as a scalpel. "I’m looking for a different word, Roxie. And I won’t ask again."
Roxie flinched, as if expecting a blow. But instead, the silence rolled on. Marisol, sensing the moment, stepped in to rescue her friend. Her lips parted, then closed. She looked at the floor, then back up at me, and said, "They..." Her pride nearly choked off the words. "They submit to their punishment. They obey. Completely."
"Very good, Mari," I said. I waited a full beat, then: "Roxie, last chance."
Roxie’s jaw flexed. She glanced at Nell’s hunched shoulders, Brielle’s tear-streaked face, Marisol’s defeated calm. The room was a crucible, and she was either going to melt or harden forever.
She took a shallow breath, closed her eyes, and waited.
I let the silence stretch, savoring the moment. On the other side of the locked break room door, the world ticked on, oblivious. Here, the rules had changed. The girls understood that now, in the way a child understands the heat of a stove after being burned.
We waited. I waited to see if Roxy would fold, or if I would need to call the police. The threat hung over her like a guillotine. Roxy, the embodiment of intimidation, shrank under the weight of my ultimatum. For a second, I almost admired her resolve. But then she let out a jagged, shuddering breath, her eyes snapping open, desperate, all defiance burned out.
"No! No cops. Please." Her voice cracked, shredded by humiliation and the bile rising in her throat.
"Then get on your knees, Roxy. State your name. Admit you’re a naughty girl, and tell us what happens to naughty girls."
I picked up the phone and dialed 9-1, my finger hovering over the last digit. The numbers glowed coldly on the screen, an instrument of social execution. The room went silent, air choking-thick, broken only by the faint click of my nail tapping the phone. Roxy moved—clumsy, not graceful. More like a condemned woman walking to the scaffold. Her knees struck the linoleum hard, a dull thud echoing in the break room. She hunched, huge hands gripping her thighs, knuckles whitening, and looked up. Her face was red with a cocktail of rage and soul-crushing shame.
Her voice came out in a broken rasp. "My name is Roxie."
"Look me in the eye," I said. "And say it."
The command hit her like a whip. Her head snapped up, chin trembling, and she forced herself to maintain eye contact. She knew looking away meant the phone call and the sirens. Tears shimmered at the edges of her vision—frustration, not surrender. She refused to let them fall. Brielle, behind her, covered her mouth with both hands, muffling a gasp. Nell stared at the floor, unable to watch her idol unravel. Marisol watched, detached, like a priestess presiding over a ritual of humiliation.
Roxy’s chest heaved, her tank top sticking to her skin with sweat. She inhaled, slow and ragged, then exhaled through clenched teeth.
"Hold that thought," I said. "Roxy needs some encouragement. Nell, get on your knees behind her. I want you to spank her five times. Roxy, you will let Nell spank you five times, and then we will hear your confession."
