Chapter 5

What does Ray do next?
Change his situationship
They watched something on streaming. If someone asked Ray the next day what they watched, he'd have had trouble remembering exactly what. Something with Seth Rogen. It was something to watch. To be honest, he had more important things running through his mind. Trying to figure out his next move. Did he want to do anything with Suzanne? She wriggled against him. She was melting into him; her hands kept his right hand firmly pressed against her stomach. He doubted that she was paying much attention to Seth Rogen and... was that Charlize Theron? What the hell were they watching?
He wanted Katie, on some level. He wanted Suzanne on some level. Was it that they were both already taken? He had to be honest with himself; that probably was one reason why he wanted to do something with both of them. Neither of their boyfriends were really stepping up to the moment. Both of these girls wanted more from them, and Ray thought that he could provide what they needed. And if he were being honest, he probably wanted to do something with the new gym teacher, Madison, that the school had hired. She was a cute girl with short dark hair, who had tried to become a professional tennis player, but couldn't make the cut. She was cute, athletic, and 23.
And to be quite honest, he wanted to be done with Rebecca. She was fine for whatever, but now that he had his birthright, his powers, did he need to have a woman that he didn't really like in his life? He snapped his fingers, and told Suzanne to drift off to sleep. If he left quickly, he could probably catch Rebecca at her job. Her actual job, the one that paid her bills, instead of what she told people she did, which was writing an online column. Her actual job was working at a coffee shop.
The second he walked into her shop, he suddenly had second thoughts. She was looking the best he had ever seen. Rebecca must be doing something new with her hair? Some sort of new conditioner, new product, something! She had never looked this good. Crap, crap. He was fully expecting that he could come in here, and have Rebecca forget that he ever existed. It was close to when the shop would close, so he was hoping that he could get a few moments with her as she left.

"Rebecca, you adore me. You think the world of me; you desperately, desperately want to please me." She wrinkled her nose at that, like she wanted to say something. It passed. Ray knew that even doing that showed an incredible amount of willpower on Rebecca's part. "I'm going to clap my hands, and you'll remember how good the sex we had felt. In fact, your memory, it'll feel five times better than it actually was." He clapped his hands; her knees buckled, as she bit her lip and a satisfied moan escaped.
"You feel safe, and warm, and happy around me," he said, continuing to focus his mental energy on her, "You're deliriously happy to be around me. So happy that you take what you can get. If you find me with another woman, you don't get jealous or upset."
He thought for a second more, and decided, yeah, he was going to try to fix her and her writing. He honestly thought that he should have gotten some major brownie points for having actually read her writing, but he never brought it up, because he found her stuff not that interesting. "You realize that you've been in a rut in your writing. Over the next couple days, you realize that there are 50 other brown girls who want to write the exact same column about how any and every problem is actually just capitalism or neoliberalism, and at least some of those 50 other girls probably went to better schools than Vassar. So if you want to stand out as a writer, you actually have to have an original thought instead of by-the-numbers academic leftism. You don't have to be a right-winger or anything," He wasn't particularly conservative or anything; it was just in none of her writing did he see anything that a few dozen other wannabe Vox staff writers couldn't also do. He sighed, and the mental connection seemed to quiver and stop. He had wanted to get that off his chest for a while.
It took a second for Rebecca to regain full faculty over herself. Her face broke out in a big smile as she realized Ray was here. "Ray! Ohmigowd! Hi, what are you doing here?" She squealed and throw her arms open in a hug. This was by far the most affectionate greeting he had ever received from her, "Did you come to walk me home? You big sweetheart!" She grasped his hand and practically hung herself off him.
She happily explained that her roommate had left yesterday to go back to Vermont for the holiday, so she had her place to herself. How about Ray come up with her to her apartment and they could have a drink or two. It was cold, so she had him wrap an arm around her and escort her home; she was snuggled nice and tight into his arm.
"Okay, I've got some liquor in the cabinets above the stove. Why don't you mix us something and I slip out of these work clothes?" She said, standing on her tip toes. Ray ducked down and she gave him a big kiss on his mouth. She was not this affectionate before.
Ray wasn't an expert at mixing drinks, but he knew enough to make a couple of old fashioneds for the two of them. He was surprised at the rye whiskey that he found in their cabinet.
"Hey, Ray," Rebecca said, coyly, emerging from her room. Ray's jaw dropped; she giggled. "Let's have some fun," she said, putting on some music . Ray admired her body as she bent over her roommate's sound system. She swayed back over to him, and started undoing his belt.
Alright, maybe he wasn't going to break up with her after all.
