"She's your alter-ego?" I guessed. It would make sense, in a way.

Kaila laughed sharply.

"Oh, wow... that.... that would make it a LOT easier," she spoke wistfully, "Oh, then I wouldn't have to actually explain every time that it wasn't me they were talking to."

I suddenly realized it and I tried to think of what you absolutely never should say to a woman with...

"Yeah, Carla's my big sister. And yes, she looks just like me. Older by about... five minutes. And don't you dare ask it. I swear I will kick your ass out RIGHT now if you ask it."

"So, uhm, why did you decide to move in together?" I asked, trying to keep the conversation neutral.

Some of the tension seemed to leave Kaila's body and she took a deep breath.

"Was still expecting you to ask it ironically. Everybody thinks they're so fucking clever because everybody knows it's a bad thing to ask but they still fucking do it anyway..." She sighed. "We chose to move in together because College sucked for both of us."

I nodded and looked out over the darkened water of the bay. Occasional lights sparkled on the water, and I was actually glad for the darkness. Helped me concentrate on the car, on the place.

"Living apart I meant. We got along ok without each other, but, just wasn't the same. So, when we both were looking for a place in the same part of the country, we figured, why the heck not?"

"So, you're living with your twin sister, and you both were hanging out with your students." I observed.

"Yeah, pretty much. But, uhm, at least they got the memo to stop calling us "The Twins". I hate that. She hates that, and I swear if you ever start calling us that or making EVERY conversation about my sister we will both hate you. "

I was pretty much speechless at this point. I had absolutely no idea that Kaila had... don't ask about a threesome... don't ask about a threesome...
