Catching Flies

Nicole’s team got right to work, but she could see almost immediately that if she was going to make a real impact she would have to be more creative.

It wasn’t the largest team of workers in Girl World. Not by a long shot. Her four staff, all young professional-looking women, were one of the smallest groups working in the resort. Safety had hundreds. Hospitality had thousands. Standards? Five.

It was a start. And since Spirit had out so much trust in her, Nicole would do her best to live up to the expectations.

“The first thing we need to do,” Nicole had said as they met around the small board room table, “is stop encouraging deviant behaviour.”

“I’m sorry,” the young woman by the name of Penny interrupted, “did you say we’ve been encouraging it?”

“Yes,” Nicole said emphatically, “encouraging. On my way to this building, I passed three stores that sell deviant clothes for men. Pants. Jeans. Boxer shorts. Disgusting!”

All the women groaned in agreement. Loraine, the youngest of the group, had fingers dancing on a tablet.

“What’s more, they’re not even a premium service! They’re free for all guests!”

“Then I propose we end that service right now. If men want to change their wardrobe, they will have to do it in a proper way,” Nicole slapped the table for emphasis, “How long will it take to replace those establishments with respectable ones?”

“Already on it,” Sally, the bespectacled one staring at her laptop screen said, “Looks like by the end of the week all of the perverted clothing shops will be closed and replaced.”

“That’s good. Slower than I’d hoped,” Nicole sighed, “but it can’t be helped. What about a dress code for staff? I’ve seen plenty of men on staff walking around in shameful outfits.”

“I’ve been looking through the policy manual,” Heather, the tall red head said as she thumbed through a thick binder, “and there’s no reason we can’t make changes. I can ask legal to draw something up.”

“Perfect,” Nicole grinned, “then I’ll leave you to it. You four work on those items and we will check back in the morning on progress. I’m going to hit the streets and see what I can learn.”

It was on the streets that Nicole saw the extent of the problem. About half of the men she saw, HALF, had chosen to live a warped and debased lifestyle. Yes, they were usually accompanied by a respectable man wearing a skirt, or lingerie, or some other normal outfit, but it change the fact that they were ruining the resort’s good name.

“Don’t you have any self-respect?” She chided a horrible grey-haired man in a golf shirt and cargo shorts as an upstanding overweight Asian man with pigtails and a Sailor Moon costume gave him a lapdance.

“Back off, lady,” the man receiving the lapdance spat, “don’t ruin the fun.”

That was it, wasn’t it? These perverts thought it was all fun. Well Nicole wasn’t going to stand for it. Of course, she wasn’t going to come between those two. The last thing she needed was for Spirit to start receiving complains and to lose confidence in Nicole’s vision.

But the man in the sailor costume had given her an idea. Maybe, if she was clever, if she could find the right team members, she could catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.
