Alexa’s eyes widened as she saw Carol standing there waiting for her. Her face beamed with joy as she immediately ran up and threw her arms around her. “Oof,” Carol said as she took Alexa into her arms.
“W-what are you doing here?” Alexa asked. “I thought…”
“I wanted to surprise you,” Carol said with a smile.
Alexa tilted her head and looked around and paused. “Wait, what about…”
But before she could say anything, Michelle caught up to them. “Jeez, Lexi, was my kissing that bad?”
Carol looked at Michelle and Michelle looked at Carol. Michelle cleared her throat and held her hand out. “Hi, I’m Michelle. You must be the stranger who adopted my best friend.”
Carol laughed as she pulled Michelle into a big hug. “And you must be the mystery girl Diane was talking about. I’m Carol. I have some news to share, but that’s for another time. How about we spend some time together. At the fair. Like a family?” Carol said as she took Michelle and Alexa by the hands with Diane joining them.
Alexa beamed with happiness. “You mean that?”
“Of course,” Carol said. “And I got something else.”
Carol pulled out a double stroller. Michelle and Alexa blushed but grinned as they both sat down, holding hands as Diane and Carol pushed them. Alexa felt tears coming down as she had never felt so happy before. She was with the best people she had ever known.
