Carol’s back
Michelle quickly explained to Carol what was going on. “She won’t open the door,” Michelle said. “I tried, Diane tried… I don’t know what happened…”
“I’ll try,” Carol said.
The two nodded as Carol gently approached the door, slowly knocking on the door. “Go away!” Alexa whined.
“Lexi, this isn’t a request, I’m coming in,” Carol said.
Carol unlocked the door with a small key, grateful she had it made for this occasion. She slowly opened the door to see a frazzled Alexa laying on the bean cushion that had been added to her room, hugging a pillow, phone on the floor. Carol gently sat down next to Alexa and gently pulled the diaper away, checking it. Surprisingly, it was dry.
“They… they let me go,” Alexa whispered.
“Huh?” Carol said. “Who?”
Alexa sat up slowly, only to lean against Carol, her eyes puffy. “They… they found out,” she said. “About my diapers… they… they fired me.”
Carol’s eyes widened. Her arms wrapped tightly around Alexa. “Oh… I’m so sorry. Look, this isn’t your fault,” she said. “I’m sure we can explain that this was a medical problem. That it’s not what they were thinking…”
“They called me,” Alexa said. “And told me they couldn’t accept my ‘alternative’ lifestyle.”
Carol’s back straightened. Her eyes grew angry. “What?!” She yelled. “I’m going to call them.”
“Carol, don’t!” Alexa cried, but Carol shook her head.
She said. “I have to. I want to talk to this Yawena person.”
Alexa sighed as Carol didn’t back down.
“Excuse me,” Carol said. “May I talk to Mr Yawena? He better be available. Yes, please.”
They waited…
“Hello?”
