Carla: To the radio station

The building is just in front of a park. No one in sight, you call dispatch.

“Central, Carla here, could you tell the client I don’t have all night, over”

“On it, over”

You close your eyes waiting for the client. The shift has been really long and you’re tired, really tired.

“She’s coming down, over”

You open your eyes. Have a quick look at you in the rear-view mirror, you look like shit. You bend down to grab your map just in case. When you look back at the building, a huge crowd is exiting. You give them your best smile hoping your client to be in their midst. They split in little groups. One of them is looking at you.

There’s something odd about them, at first you can’t put your finger on it but then it hits you. They look like they’ve just finished an audition for the last Romero movie. They seem covered in blood, clothes torn off, pale faces… You panic when the small group heads in your direction, you try to start the engine.

Someone knocks on the passenger window.

You turn around to see a beautiful lady smiling at you. Instantly you forget about the group of ghouls coming your way.

She makes a sign indicating you that she wants you to roll down the window. You press the button.

“You’re the cab I called earlier?” She asks.

Unable to answer you nod. She jumps in the back.

“Sweetheart, could you take me to this address? It’s downtown, it’s a radio station, I have a meeting there in less than half an hour.”

"Got it lady"

You start the engine.

During the whole trip you can feel her stare on the nape of you neck. It makes you uneasy.

Taking a couple of short cuts you get there in less than ten minutes.

“We're there"

You cut the taximeter and turn to the client.

"It's eight bucks, ma'am."

"Eight... hum, I could pay you but if you come here with me, I can offer you much more than that."

Your guts tell you that if you accept the ladies offer you'll be rewarded a thousand times what you're supposed to get.
