The first victim was...
Captain Marvel
There were many planets out in the universe, with many intergalactic threats. Over on one distant planet the alien citizens were in terror as a giant explosion destroyed the city around them. A large skyscraper fell down, threatening to crush the people below it.
But then, a blue and yellow light whizzed by. A glowing human figure floated below the skyscraper and pushed it up and away from the citizens. They cheered, for they were now saved thanks to the hero Captain Marvel.
Carol Danvers continued to save as many aliens as she could, getting the citizens of this planet to safety as the city exploded around them. She then blasted off to another planet, ready to help out anyone else who may need her. She's occasionally been on Earth, was even there just a moment ago, and that place had plenty of heroes. She was going to be one of those heroes for space.
Unfortunately, she didn't realize what she ended up getting from Earth.
As Carol sped through the universe, looking for another planet to land on, she found herself feeling sick. She landed on an abandoned moon, thinking she just needed a bit of rest, but this sensation only continued to grow worse. Something seemed to build up in her body, as if she was getting pulled in many directions. Her suit, despite how strong it was, seemed like paper that shattered as her body expanded and grew before splitting apart.
Finally, Carol started to feel better. But she wasn't alone this time.
How many Captain Marvels are there?
