Cabin - Getting Ready for Bed

It was her first night at Lawlook Camp, and Diana was already feeling anxious. The young girl had never been at one with the outdoors, and the orientation for her and her fellow camp counselors did nothing to quell her discomfort.

Lawlook was a good hour drive from the nearest city, ideally situated in a mountain valley covered with dense, green forests. The air was crisp and nature left its mark everywhere. The buildings were old and earthy, with cabins made out of timber logs for counselors and tents for the kids.

The tents were located farthest up the valley, up the dirt road that acted as the main causeway for the camp. Below these about 200 meters were the accommodations for the counselors, with a public bathroom located across the road from the cabins. Going down the road farther, the road fanned our into the main public area, with a dining hall, meeting room, and outdoor fire circle. After this, the road returned its normal course, veering it’s way down to the lake about half a mile away.

Diana was already tired of it all. The food was unappetizing, her fellow employees were overly energetic, and dust filled the air at every turn.

But finally, it was time for a break. Orientation was over, and it was time for bed. Diana was assigned a cabin number and told to meet her roommates there.

Going up the road, Diana turned into the counselor grounds. Cabins were situated in disorderly rows, with each one about 40 feet apart from the next. At the end of the line, Diana’s cabin sat waiting.

“Good lord” she said, and then knocked on the door.

It swung open. Inside, a smiling girl, about Diana’s age, stood welcoming her in.

“Hi, my names Jess” she began “and that there is Marie.”

Jess gestured to the bed, where Marie smiled and said hello.

“Looks like we’ll be roommates for the summer!” Marie said.

“Well this isn’t so bad” Diana thought. “At least they’re very nice. I can make it through this.”

Chatting away, the three girls unpacked their bags. The sun fell down behind the mountain, and soon it was 10 pm and the girls were all in bed.

Diana changed into a pair of baggy, cotton pajama bottoms that modestly covered her entire legs, and a plain white undershirt. The other girls laughed in their more scandalous nightwear.

They all crawled into bed at 10:30. After saying goodnight, Diana drifted off into a deep sleep.

About an hour later however, something woke her up.
