Business first

First things first, you get straight to business and Rose pitches you on what their company can do for the city. You agree readily to her terms and she's so excited that she hugs you while you're eating, and she invites you to visit their lab next week to see the prototypes and experience it yourself.

After that, you two enjoy the delicious dinner together and it's so filling, your stomach is ready to burst. By the time the check comes, you and Rose are laughing and joking while talking about a variety of topics. Of course, Rose picks up the check with her corporate account.

You decide to be a little forward at the end after the waiter has cleared the table. Putting your hand on hers, you say, "Rose, it's been a lovely evening and I think this will be a great partnership. Why don't we continue this conversation upstairs?"

Rose blushes, though she doesn't pull her hand away. "Mister mayor-"

"John."

"John, I'm flattered. Really, I am, but I'm still married..."

"Still?" you ask.

"Well, my husband and I are separated. We're going through some tough times. That bastard was arrested a while ago in Italy for public indecency where he was cheating on me with his mistress. Apparently they were into some pretty weird stuff, if the tabloids are to be believed."

"That's horrible. But that also means you're not together."

"Yes, but that's not all."

"What else?"

"I'm pregnant."

"Oh." It hadn't been obvious since her figure wasn't showing it yet but you realize that she hasn't had a drink all night. You thought she was just being professional. Then, you think about the encounter with her in the dressing room. "You look great, if you don't mind me saying. Is it his?"

Rose's face turns even redder. "No, he hadn't touched me in a while even though he promised we would try for kids. It's... it's a long story."
