Chapter 11 by GreenBean GreenBean

What's Jessica's best option?

Burn them both

With a rush of violent intent. Jessica found the cocktail and relit it. The two beasts were still locked in a bloody embrace as she found her feet. Just as the silver cocked beast head twisted and noticed her, Jessica flung the bottle at the pair. Orange fire blossomed over their ghastly shapes with the sound of breaking glass. They tried to disentangle themselves, but their jerky and ungraceful motions only entangled them further, till at last, they both gave into their injuries with a rapturous death rattle.
Jessica had been backing away as all this played out. But was relieved that she had slain the beasts. Practically a hunter now she thought to herself. Though... most hunters probably don't suck the knob of their prey. And now she was weaponless.

The warm night felt colder as Jessica moved on, crossing the bridge. How was she to contend with these beasts. She was certain not all of them would be lusty for a mere taste of her flesh. And she could be tried for beasthood herself if it was even known she was ravaged by a beast to any measure. Jessica felt panic rise in her throat. She just had to get home.
Jessica arrived at the elevator, hands trembling. When she tried to pull the lever as she'd seen an attendant do many times, her trembling grasp couldn't make it budge. A crow barked out from behind her, causing Jessica to jump. She turned to find the crow dangerously near to her.
Panic froze Jessica's heart, as the mess of feathers leaped at her, talons extended, beak questing for soft flesh. Jessica tumbled backward from the bird's assault. One eye shut with stinging pain, she scrambled away from the murderous crow. Standing back up, with a hand to her face, she reconsidered her options, as fought down the urge to scream in fear.
The crow seemed to have settled for staying in its place by the elevator, its yellow glowing eyes locked on hers. She would have to go past it if she were to take the elevator.

She could feel blood, but not enough to be from a deep wound, under her hand. Wiping it away Jessica opened her shut eye, it still worked, but it stung and the swelling around it made it difficult. She let it close again, fear subsiding slightly knowing she still had both her eyes.

Jessica looked around. There was a ladder leading into either the sewers or the dry dock ways (people seemed to use them for both) She knew a way home from the dry docks. She turned her head back to the crow. Its eyes maliciously bore into hers. She turned the other way toward the bridge. A new shot of fear went through her. At end of the bridge stood a m approaching humanoid figure. But too inhumanly tall. Donned in a black robe a carrying a sack large enough to fit Jessica and a few others in. Even under its robed head, Jessica felt it's eyes on her too. She shuddered as she knew that thing meant a blacker fate for her than any other beast. Jessica had to make a call quickly. She thought she might be able to withstand the crow to pull the lever. Or she could risk the sewer. A wave of exhaustion hit her, this was going to be a long night.

Where to go?
