option 2: at the start of season 2. Buffy turned 18 during the summer after season 1. The Scourge of Europe comes to Sunnydale and find a Nymphomaniac for a Slayer who is more than happy to be Spike-ed hard!

option 3: During her summer after running away after season 2, Buffy hits her maturity and begins indulging in not only human sex but also demons. The Buffy Summers who returns to Sunnydale is a very different creature than the one who left.
