How will you convince Tagaera?
Brutal Honesty
If there is one thing the dwarven people value above all else, it is transparency. They like to wear their heart on their sleeves, so to speak and in that respect Tagaera is no different. You aren't just going to try and overwhelm her with the tome and steal the anchor from her - There's enough other mages to do this to. No, her skillset, her outlook, her very self is far too valuable to subject to such destruction. Not to mention that her craftsmanship is quite impressive. You're hesitant to call it admiration but perhaps she has your attention as readily as you have hers now. She waits patiently for you to speak and when you do, she even lowers her hammer and neglects her work once you get to the meat of your ambition. It's all or nothing, coming clean right out of the gate. No secrets, no restraints, just the honest truth of your desires and intentions.
You procure the grimoire from within your robes, the chain only barely holding it back as if it is drawn toward the dwarf's stubborn mind like a ravenous beast toward fresh meat. She does not immediately recognise it for what it is, but she does understand the threat it poses - She feels the magic radiating off of every page.
"I have come into the possession of this tome. A book of ancient magicks. Control in its rawest incarnation - The Art of Domination reborn. It might be one of the few, perhaps the only remainder of that ancient knowledge." You say, waving the book in front of her like a lure to the fish, "I will tell it to you as it is, Forgemistress Tagaera - I intend to use it to full extend of my capability."
You need not go on to get the idea across. She is versed enough in the arts to understand the mental ruination, soul slavery and lustful chains you will weave across the world with something like this at your disposal. She still awaits your explanation for her part in all of this. You know all too well that all that stands between you and a hammer splitting your skull is whether or not you give her good reason not to intervene. Once more, honesty will have to do. You have no need to veil the admiration in your eyes, that spark of intrigue at every stroke of her hammer, the way her muscles flex into the metal she is beating into submission.
"The Celestium-Anchor is the only hope I have to keep this a secret from formidable mages like , for example, yourself. I need to study it further, need to contain it and learn to weave its power through me without losing myself in the process. That takes time and time I do not have in great supply."
"You're not dumb, knife-ear." She spits, the smile on her lips a bit more pronounced now, her attention less split and properly focuse on you. "You know I don't do charity and I'd love to find out whether that book or my fist connects faster with it's target. So, unless you're just making this up as you go, what's in it for me?"
"If I succeed at all these grand things. And that is a massive IF," You say, finally lowering the book to reduce the apparent threat it might pose to her, "You will have all the opportunities for **** you want. It's no secret you hold no good will for many here in the academy, scholar, scribe, student or archmage and I can understand why. Not to mention your own kind at home. I...will not claim to understand all you have seen and lived through, but frustration at your own kind for not seeing the bigger picture is something I am more privy to than I would like to be. The power of the tome will be at your disposal. You will be on the winner's side for as long and to the extent you wish."
She interrupts you with a gesture of her hand and a brief laugh. "Alright alright, Lad. I get it. Gods, you have a big mouth for someone who's trying to play it close to the ground. Lemme put you at ease, okay? I'm interested. I am not accepting just yet. There's a bit more to get through first. But I'm not ratting you out to the purifiers, nor to the other mages, aight?"
She extends her hand in an almost cordial business like offer, but her eyes carry a fire of temptation, lust even. She's trying to gauge just how you really think - Where your passions lie. "How about" She says, "We take this somewhere more private? I've still got a good wine or two lying about. We can talk details and assurances, both ways, and if things are satisfactory for us both, you got yourself an ally an anchor and maybe a little something more if I am feeling generous today, mh?~"
Do you take her up on her offer?
