Break for lunch.

It’s not like an extra hour is going to do much of a dent in the workload, so you decide to have lunch. It’s a bit early, so it’s just you and Gemma at the lunch table. It feels good to be out of the utility room, almost like you’ve just gotten out of jail. You seat yourself across from your workmate and start into your sandwich.

“So, tell me about yourself, John,” Gemma says.

“Uh?”

“What are your likes, hobbies, etcetera?”

“Oh, well pretty typical stuff, I guess, I live music, movies, food…” you reply, staring at your sandwich.

Gemma narrows her eyes at you and smirks, “You really are training up to be a lawyer, huh? That was as vague a response as anything!”

“Well… what are YOU into?” you deflect.

“I’m into surfing, mountain climbing; anything outdoors!” Gemma responds immediately. “You ever surf, John? I’ve travelled all over the globe searching for killer waves to carve. I’m even headed to the beach this weekend for some good runs. Now is the perfect season!”

“Can’t say that I have…” you admit. “I’m surprised you’re so active considering you’re interning in a law firm…”

Gemma raises her eyebrow and chuckles. “Everyone needs a hobby, John. You keep doing one thing over and over again and it’ll drive you mad! Don’t you do anything to unwind?”

You think about your OnlyFans account, but don’t really want to bring that up as a hobby. You don’t know how Gemma would respond and, besides, you just signed up, so you don’t know if it is actually going to be a hobby.

“Well,” you say, realizing you should probably give her something. “I just started getting into.. Uh… blogging…”

Gemma smiles brightly. “Ah, well there’s something! What’s your blog about? Can I see it?”

“Typical guy,” Gemma laughs. “Oh hey, here come the others!”

You turn to see the rest of the interns entering the cafeteria for lunch.

“How’s copy pasta duty going?” Eddie asks, sitting down to join you with his homemade lunch.

“Bore fest!” Gemma tells him, “Plus, I don’t think the AC works in that room, it’s all stuffy.”

“Is there a lot of work in there?” Eddie follows up, digging into his cold noodles.

“Whole room is full of undigitized paperwork,” you divulge as you scan the other interns lining up for food. None of them are wearing a polkadot skirt. You also notice that Sabrina is not with them. “Hey, where’d Sabrina go?” you ask.

“Ah, she said she was having lunch with her sister,” Eddie tells you.

“Well, we’re done with OUR lunch, so I suppose we’d better head back to the coal mine,” Gemma remarks. “Papers aren’t going to scan themselves!” She picks up her tray to leave. You nod to Eddie and head off as well.

As you walk back to the utility room, you pull out your phone to check messages. There is one from Kat18! You open it up and find three images attached. It’s Kat18 sitting in an office chair in the same office space as before. She is wearing a ruffled black skirt with yellow polkadots!
