Chapter 18 by SpiralFelix SpiralFelix

What, if anything, happens on the ride home?

Brandon decides to take Mackenzie on their date NOW

Mackenzie tried not to look out the window as Brandon drove them through town. Luckily, with a storm clearly on the horizon, there weren't many people out. And anyone who was still outdoors were much more preoccupied with finding shelter. Still, Mackenzie felt much more comfortable having at least the borrowed shirt on. And in just a few minutes, they'd be pulling into her driveway and she'd be home free!

Her optimistic thoughts were interrupted, however, when Brandon made a left turn she didn't expect.

"Wrong way," was all Mackenzie said, still trying to keep a neutral tone. Brandon knew where she lived, so she hadn't been giving him directions or anything.

"I was thinking of hitting Emma's," Brandon said. He was referring to Emma Nelson's Food, a staple restaurant in their town, long presided over by the extremely talented namesake and cook. Emma was a whiz with all things culinary. (Titles, not so much.)

"What?" Mackenzie asked, genuinely confused. "You're getting food now? I thought you were taking me home."

"I'm not getting food, we're getting food. You did say yes to a date, after all."

"Wh-" Mackenzie was so shocked that she reeled back as if she'd been slapped in the face. "We're not going on a date RIGHT NOW!"

"Why not?" Brandon chuckled. "You've got clothes on now! Besides, you might flake out on me if we wait for another day."

"I!... You!... But!..." Mackenzie struggled to even process what Brandon was saying. How could he seriously expect her to go out in public wearing just a t-shirt? It barely even covered her ass!

Brandon pulled into the parking lot, which was far from empty. There was typically a good amount of customers at this time of day, and it seemed today was no exception.

"No! No way!" a flabbergasted Mackenzie finally managed to say as he turned the car off.

"Hey, you agreed to this," Brandon smirked. He opened the driver's side door and stepped out of the car. A few drops of rain began pattering down on the pavement around him. Brandon closed his door, circled around the car, and opened the passenger side door for Mackenzie. "Let's go already!"

"I am NOT going in there dressed like this!" Mackenzie said, putting her bare foot down. She felt a few drops of rain hit her on the shoulder.

"Relax, you're perfectly decent now," he smarmed. "Although you might wanna hurry it up and get inside. Rain's starting, and I wouldn't want to get that shirt wet if I were you..."

Mackenzie glanced down at the thin white t-shirt, her only claim to modesty. She blushed at the thought of it getting drenched in the rain and scooted further left on her seat. The wind made it impossible to stay completely dry, though. And Brandon clearly had no intention of closing the door until she exited the car.

She couldn't really go in there like this, could she? Sure, maybe the t-shirt might look like a short dress at a glance. But anyone who took more than three seconds to look at her would likely deduce that she was only wearing a shirt! She'd done so before as pajamas, but out in public? No way! Then again, what was her other option? Sitting there while she slowly got drenched by the rain? Thanks to the wind, the drops were still hitting her quite a bit. Her right sleeve was already getting significantly wet, and the rest of her shirt was going to soon be following its lead. Mackenzie gulped nervously.

What does Mackenzie decide?
