What Sport Does James Lie About?
Boxing
"Boxing. I was actually a uh a local champion, back in my hometown." James was just trying to impress the cute girl in front of him. He was never in a boxing fight, he barely even watched any boxing, but he knew enough about the rules from one of his college friends that he would be able to bluff his way through the lie and hopefully impress Amy enough to get her to sleep with him, or better yet have her agree to go out on a date with him.
Her eyes immediately lit up when he said that. "Oh my god you can't be serious. I trained in basic boxing back during my sophomore year of high school. I gave it up afterwards but I've getting back into it for the past few months!" Well, it seemed he was out of luck. If he tried to talk to her at all about boxing his cover would be completely blown. Knowing that he tried to change the subject.
Or at least he wanted to, but his mind was screaming at him to continue flexing his figurative muscles to this girl. His ego got the better of him and he decided to keep going with this fake 'boxing champion' bs. "Well it's too bad there isn't a ring at this gym because I would've loved to beat your ass." Ah yes, threats of physical ****, truly the easiest way to a woman's heart. Unluckily for James, it seemed Amy was not taken aback by his brave display of bravado.
"Someone's cocky!" She gave a sly smirk as she continued. "In fact I would say that's a challenge." James was not sure where this was going but he still played along, sunk cost and all that. "Well it would be if this gym had a ring." She raised an eyebrow at him know, still with the smirk plastered all over her face. "Well Mr. 'boxing champion', there does happen to be a ring in a room in the back. And since you're so adamant on proving your skills, I say we have a little sparring match." James felt his heart sink. He didn't know how to box. He would need a way out of this scenario. "Oh I would love to, but I am a bit sore from the workout, maybe some other day."
Amy was having a field day with this. "Excuses, excuses. Don't tell me the big bad champion is backing out cause of a little workout fatigue? Are you afraid of losing to a little amateur boxer like me?" James didn't want to seem like he was scared of sparing, especially after the smack talk he did, but he also did not want to embarrass himself with a pathetic display and expose his lies. But there was no out for him here. He had to accept if he even wanted to have a chance with this woman. "No, no, we'll spar if you want."
"Awesome!" Amy beamed. "I'm so pumped to finally get some experience against someone who isn't my boxing instructor. And against an experienced champion, no less." James was going pale. "Yes, don't expect me to go easy on you though!" Even now his ego wouldn't refrain from more talking more shit. "Oh I wouldn't have it any other way." James tried to look calm as Amy's smile pierced through his soul. They remained silent for a couple seconds before she spoke up. "Well then it's settled. Why don't you go over and reserve a ring for us while I finish up the last of my sets. I'll meet you there in 5."
