Chapter 3 by vinaren vinaren

What's next?

Bob's birthday party

That night, a large party was held. All villagers of Comdon have come. The tables were filled with the most delicious food, and beers and juices flow like rivers.

At 10 pm, a man blew a horn and shouted: "Now, a speech from today's main character - our beloved Mayor, BOB!"

Everyone clapped

Bob: "Today is my 90th birthday!"

Everyone: "Happy birthday, Bob!"

Bob: "First, thank you for attending my birthday party. I don’t know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve, but I'm glad that everyone gathers here to congratulate me.

Second, I want to announce my retirement."

Lots of noises came from the crowd.

"In my youth, I have traveled to many places, dream to write a book about my journey. But many unpredictable events halted that dream. Now I want to see the outside world again! The mountains! The rivers! The sea! And then find somewhere quiet where I can finish my book.

I believe that our people can wisely choose someone to fill my seat. In my personal opinion, I recommend John. Although he was very young -just turned 18 this year - I think in his heart John is in love with this village: the woods, the fields, the springs, everything. Give him a chance and he will be a better Mayor than me.

Alas, ninety years is far too short a time to live among such excellent and admirable people. But everything nice has come to an end. I regret to announce that I am going now. I bid you all a very fond farewell. Goodbye."

Suddenly Bob vanished.

Breaking Point, the main room.

Bob's figure appeared out of thin air, his right hand held a golden ring which, judging from his stance, he just took off from his finger. Bob laughed: "Hahaha! I did it..."

Suddenly, a voice sounded:

-There are many magic rings in this world, Bob, and none of them should be used lightly.

Bob jumped in shock and quickly turned back. When seeing the one who just spoke, he sighed in relief:

-Tia, you scared me.

-I suppose you think that was terribly clever.

-Come on Tia! Did you see their faces?... Of course, I never expect you'll be tricked.

-You will keep an eye on John, won’t you?

-Two eyes, as often as I can spare them.

-I’m leaving everything to him.

-What about this Ring of yours, is that staying too?

-Yes, yes. It’s in an envelope over there on the mantelpiece...

However, Bob didn't look for the envelope. He just stood there, looking at the ring in his hand. Then he began to murmur:

"Yet, after all, why not? Why shouldn’t I keep it?... I don’t feel like parting with it... I found it, it came to me!... My own! My precious!..."

Can Bob resist the temptation?
