Blueberry Gum

Among the candy in the package, there was a new type of blueberry gum. According to the makers, this brand was supposed to last for days without ever losing its flavor. There had been a small contest where 100 winners would get a chance to test it and send back results. And Leana was one of the 100 winners.

Within just a few seconds, Leana had already unwrapped the gum and stuck it in her mouth. When she started chewing, she got an incredible blueberry flavor.

"So good!" Leana said. At that point, Leana's cell phone went off. Looking at it, she saw the caller ID. It was her mother. Sighing, she answered.

"Hey mom." Leana said, not even bothering to spit the gum out.

"Hey!" Her mom replied. "Just checking up on you! How are classes going?"

Leana blanked. She'd dropped out of college last month to pursue her dream of being a streamer, but she hadn't told her mom yet. What could she tell her? Her 23-year-old daughter decided to give up on higher education to pursue a dream that hadn't yet given results?

"Uhh... fine, mom." Leana lied. "I just... don't have any today."

There was a brief silence on the phone. Leana was praying her mom bought that.

"Well, enjoy your day off." Her mom said. "Hey, are you chewing something?"

"Yeah, remember that contest to test that gum? I won!" Leana replied. "I'm testing it now."

"Oh... congratulations." Her mom said. "Well, I need to get back to work. Talk soon, honey." Then her mom hung up.

Leana felt a pang of guilt. Her mom was a wonderful person, and she was being lied to. Shaking her head, Leana went back to her room still chewing the gum. Unknown to her though..
