Chapter 3 by MaverickMinion MaverickMinion

Is Blue a boy? Or a Girl?

Blue is a boy

Your rival, Blue Oak, was a giant pain in the ass who turned everything into a dick-measuring contest. It didn't matter to him what it was, he had to be superior. At the very least, he felt he had to be better than you.

You're not sure when it started, but there was a very short period of time when he wasn't competing with you over every little thing. It's hard to say when it started, so you can't remember what caused him from being a pretty good friend to the pain in the ass you've suffered with until today. Maybe it was how his grandfather made an offhand remark that implied you were better at something than he was? Maybe he noticed that you thought his older sister was pretty and tried to get her attention when you were kids. Maybe he was just always going to be an asshole and nothing in particular caused it.

Regardless, with the upcoming graduation you had high hopes that you'd be able to get some space from him and not have to deal with his “Smell ya later!” attitude every since day. Alas, it was not yet meant to be. You're sure the professor didn't mean ill with his decision, but choosing both of you for an apprenticeship was not the smartest move he could have made.

You could just politely decline his offer, but it was too valuable an opportunity to throw away just because his grandson likes to make himself the center of attention. Plus, it would only stroke Blue's ego to think he “won” the apprenticeship over you.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't. At the very least you ought to get something out of it. Now you just have to wait until he finished bragging about how great he is and how much greater he'll be to the entire student body.

Luckily, it looked like he was just about done. In record time, too.

“-ecome the Indigo League Champion!”

Apparently other students found his ranting charismatic, because they begin cheering and clapping much like they had done for Professor Oak at this point, who humors his grandson by clapping as well, though you imagine he was at least a little irked that Blue technically stole his show for a moment.

“Thank you for your passionate words, Blue. I hope they've inspired the rest of your classmates to give their all for their own dreams as well.”

With a proud, smug grin on his face, your rival dramatically exits the stage and heads towards his small group of fans, who have probably wrote entire novels dedicated to praising Blue simply for breathing.

“And lastly, we have Green, the exchange student who joined us this year. Their test scores were exceptionally high and they've made quite the impression in their short time with us.”

Oh right, you forgot that a new student enrolled at the start of the year. Circumstances in Johto apparently caused their family to move with other relatives here in Pallet Town. Luckily, Green was apparently smart enough to transfer over to the Academy with no issues.

Now that you think about it, you don't remember if you've ever actually met them before. You're having trouble remembering a face to go with the name.

Was Green a boy? Or were they a girl?
