Chapter 22 by wedgekree

The chaos around the perimeter as the Humans rapidly repositioned themselves with the alien hit and run attacks around and the assault upon several of their units made for perfect cover. While the aliens in the freighters continued to maneuver themselves for ambush and infiltration, more of them were able to drop from the freighters while the Amazon sweeping squads would hunker down so they wouldn't be attacked in tight quarters.

From the maintenance hatch of another of the freighters, a second group of burrowers would drop on down. Taking some moments o evaluate the area, getting psychic imprints over from their brethren, the burrowers would start digging again. Popping down a few meters to help mask the light seismic quakes their digging would make, they would start to tunnel around rapidly. Attempting to find ways of engaging isolated Amazon units along the perimeter to take out or bypass. While getting out into the city proper would be of little use for breeding targets, it would force the regiment upon discovery to have to send units in pursuit or risk the hive spreading.

In he Command Center, Colonel 'Scarlett' would swear. "All units, maintain positions where you are. Cover area and hunker." Hundreds of women spread throughout the combat perimeter would go to knees and cover positions. Ready to shoot in any direction and having themselves spread out enough to avoid being tkaen out in clusters. Maximum alert, in defensive positions, and able to open fire on anything that would move that didn't haev a friendly IFF tag on it. They could instnatly bring about a massive bevy of shredding firepower on any alien that would move. From the smallest Broodlings to the rapid skirmishers. Any that they coudl catch would die instnatly. This however left them all locked down and surrendered the initative for at least a few moments.

"Bastards!" One of the aides in the command element would yell. For once, Colonel Scarlett didn't have the heart to chew her out for breaking protocol. "We'll get the bastards. Every last one of them." Her voice was dangerous in a way it hadn't been since they were assigned to Core garrison duties. It was deadly and focused.
