Chapter 3
How does fate intervene?
Bizarrely. (Epilogue)
You jounce and bounce along in the mage's backpack for hours, days, weeks: somewhere around two months in you kind of lose track of time. Eventually she tries to use you as a component to upgrade her staff, a sight better looking one than what she had when you first met her, but, it doesn't work, so she puts you back in her pack where you stay for a while longer.
Then, one night, she takes you out and shows you to this guy in the robes of a beginner cleric, your not sure of what god but the robe is coal black, and he purchases you for her ASKING PRICE of 5,000 GP! He doesn't even TRY to haggle, and into his pack you go. You don't even know were the kind of priest who wears robes like that, basically only 'noobs' which you have learned stands for 'newbie' AKA beginners, and people who just got zapped back to town after they were killed would be caught dead in them, so you have no idea where he GOT 5K in gold, but had it he did and you jounce and bounce across the countryside for a few more days judging by the sound of the priest snoring.
An interminable week later you come to a place where the priest walks softly and does not speak to anyone, before you are taken out of the pack and placed on a altar. Another priest, in coal black armor girdled with a belt of magical tools comes up and pokes and prods you, to which you can only dim and brighten your eyes in annoyance.
Finally he walks out of your field of vision, around the altar anti-sunways, and you hear his steps rising up what you guess is a stair case behind you, before there is a DEAFENING crash, like a hundred hundred gongs, drums, bells and cymbals all sounding at once and in a voice clearly amplified by magic the priest calls out:
"WE HAVE FOUND HIM!"
Then, in a roar from a five hundred throats, he is answered.
"PRAISE LORCHOS, HE IS FOUND!"
You are placed on a pillow upholstered in cloth made from solid gold threads, and carried out of the 'temple' you realize it is called, into a secluded mountain valley where there is a small lake, a stream, rolling grass, and a great ring of standing stones with other stones resting atop them, surrounded by two lesser rings of stones, atop each of which rests a skull or jewel,
You are carried into the ring of stones and placed atop a coal black plinth made from a single perfect hexagon of basalt, and the priests, and after a second you register 'priestesses', hard to tell in those diaphanous robes, all start to dance and chant and sing hymns in praise of 'Lorchos: God of Darkness'. It's driving you right up a wall but they WON'T SHUT UP and let you get back to sleep.
They dance and sing and dance and chant and dance and pray till their voices grow horse and eventually one by one they drop from exhaustion. ~Ah! Peace and quiet!~ You think, it being long after nightfall, when from a sky with not a single cloud in it that you can see, there is a bolt of anti-lightning and you are blasted into a billion fragments.
Is this the end?

Game Monster
From Creep to Boss
You come into being as a low-level monster, the kind heroes chew through like popcorn. You know the drill, whether you're a player yourself or an artificial intelligence, and you're sick of it. You set out on your own quest: to defeat the heroes at any cost (or at least be an epic boss somewhere down the line).
