Betrayal

Me and Brooke lasted for three strong years. I thought everything was going great. We both had steady, good jobs, and I even had moved into my own house. It was small, but it was mine. We even had plans of getting married soon. I had the proposal all worked out, just needed the right opportunity to do it.

About this time, a lot of her friends graduated from college, and moved back home. A lot of her childhood friends, cousins, and unfortunately, her high school ex, Dustin. She had become distant from me really suddenly. I wouldn’t hear from her for days, and then she would always be busy. I started to worry of course, and those worries I had became true.

She called me one day, saying that we needed to talk. I drove over to her and her mom’s house, afraid of what she would say. She didn’t sugar coat it or anything. “John, I’m sorry, but I can’t keep leading you on. I do love you, you have to trust me on that. But I’ve found someone else, someone who gives me those butterflies again, someone who excites me. So, I’m breaking up with you, John.”

I didn’t respond to her. I just got up and left. Tears had welled up in my eyes, pain had filled my heart. Emma had arrived back at their house as I was leaving. She tried to check on me and help me, and just pushed her off of me and ignored her. I just went back to my house, and tried to drink away all of my feeling for the night, and ended up trying to for the week.
