Chapter 66 by amon_Baal amon_Baal

How does dinner go?

Begins very pleasantly.

After Mitch and Mon left Jan rolled her eyes and hugged Steve, “Lord, I think we are going to become pimps for our friends.” She sighed.

Steve laughed, “Don’t pimps get paid.” He said as he and Jan walked out the door.

“I suppose you are right.” She sighed again, “What are we going to do?”

Steve shrugged, “I offered to introduce Mon to Gen and Mitch to Mina. They can take it from there if Mitch ends up knocking up an orc, not our problem.” They drove to the restaurant in relative silence both thinking about everything which had happened in the last week.

Jan was the first to speak when they arrived, “We don’t do this enough.” She said.

Steve laughed and realised he had been laughing a lot more lately, “I think we had a dedicated us night only two weeks ago, left the wedding plans and work behind and just spent a night for us.”

Jan stopped in her steps, “My God, that was only a fortnight ago? Wow, so much has happened.”

They were shown to their table by a stoic waiter who did not seem interested in, well, anything and sat quietly together, enjoying each other’s company. After several moments of looking at the wine list Steve asked, “Bottle or glasses?”

“I think a bottle, I was looking at the bubbles.” Steve flagged the waiter down and gestured towards Jan, “A bottle of the California sparkling?” He nodded and left.

“So, what have we left for our wedding plans?” Steve asked.

Jan smiled, “I brought a list.”

“Of course your did.”

“Hey!” Jan chided him, they were both smiling. “Well assuming that our bucks and hens nights are dealt with,” Steve nodded, “I have a final fitting for my wedding dress next week.”

“Think you can fit that in what with you staying with Kay and Gen?” He asked her.

She nodded before continuing, “Your suit is dealt with, we need final confirmation with the florist and I want confirmation with the baker but that should be fine.” The waiter arrived with the wine and the conversation paused for a few moments. When he left they held up their glasses to each other, “To sharing a wonderful life.” Jan said.

“With my wife to be.” Steve added.

“We also are starting to share our life with our new girlfriend.” Jan said with a smile.

Steve wondered if they got any strange looks but chose not to look, “And sharing my wife to be.” He whispered back. “So anything else?”

Jan shook her head as she swallowed a sip of wine, “Everything seems to be going just fine. Oh, we will need to change the seating plan some, I mean we have to invite our girlfriend and her parents to the wedding.”

“That’s a good point, also, should we tell our family?” Steve asked with raised eyebrows, “I mean your Dad was unhappy when we moved in together before getting married, how is he going to react when we invite ‘our’ girlfriend to ‘our’ wedding, and what happens if it comes out that you are fucking her father, or are pregnant to her father?”

Jan sat there for a moment, “I can’t believe how casually you said that? Pregnant to Gen at our wedding and you said it as if the only consideration is my Father’s reaction.”

“Well, we’ve discussed it and know what we want. Kaya is supportive, Gen and Kay seem very happy with it. The next thing to consider is how our families will react.”

Jan laughed, “Yes but you didn’t even mention the fact that they aren’t human. I think a bigger concern is going to be how is my father going to react to the idea of me dating a woman who is not human.“

“I suppose, but you know is it any different to you dating a black man a few decades ago? Or a black woman in this case? It’s just veiled racism.”

“Specism.” Jan corrected.

Steve nodded, “We could sit them at the table with my Aunt.” He offered.

“She is more liberal, you aren’t worried she will introduce our new friends to some of the recreational habits she has?”

“We can warn them, besides, do you have a better idea?”

Does Jan have a better idea?
