Before You Go

Seeing Jenny tucked away under her blankets had made Emma ponder a nap of her own. She had made up her mind to head back to Jake's room and get under her own blankets for a small snooze, when Jenny's voice stopped her.

"Emma," Jenny said, then waited for her cousin to respond.

Emma turned at the brunette's words and responded with a, "Yes, dear?"

Jenny was staring at her, a smile playing at the corner of her lips, but not quite making it to her eyes. "I had a lot of fun last night."

Emma felt naked, being held in Jenny's gaze like that. Jenny's smile had widened, but it was anything but warm. "That's good, Jen. We were a bit worried you wouldn't remember much." Emma said, not sure how to continue.

"Oh I remember plenty, Emma." Jenny said flatly, her smile held, but her eyes narrowed.

Emma felt a cold shiver run down her spine. Jenny's facial expression reminded Emma of a snake, and Emma suddenly felt like it's prey. Emma hurried to come up with the right thing to say. Jenny beat her to it.

Jenny repeated her earlier words, "I had a lot of fun last night," but then she added, "I hope you did too."

Emma didn't know what to make of this, so she simply nodded.

"Good," Jenny said, the smile finally reaching her eyes, "Now let me nap." She rolled back over under her covers and said no more.

Emma left and headed to her own room. As she undressed and prepared for her own nap, Jenny's words stuck with her. Emma didn't know how to take them. As she hid herself under Jake's covers, seeking comfort and sleep, the events of the night before played through her mind.
