Chapter 37

What's next?
Beach Band
The closer you and Jane get to the crowd gathered near the shoreline, the clearer the music becomes.
Warm acoustic guitar drifts through the salty ocean air while sunlight reflects brightly across the water behind the band. A loose crowd has formed in the sand nearby, some people standing barefoot with drinks in hand while others sit on blankets or low beach chairs facing the little setup.
And honestly?
The vibe is perfect.
The band itself is just a three-piece setup.
One guy sits on a cajón cocktail kit keeping rhythm with brushes and soft percussion while the other two musicians stand beside microphones with acoustic guitars strapped across their shoulders. No giant speakers. No flashy stage. Just warm beach music rolling naturally across the shoreline while waves crash softly behind them.
Exactly the kind of thing both you and Jane instantly love.
“Oh my god,” Jane says quietly while squeezing your hand once. “This is literally your dream setup.”
She’s not wrong.
The stripped-down acoustic sound immediately scratches something in your brain in the best way possible. The harmonies are clean. The guitars sound warm and natural against the ocean air. Even the percussion feels smooth and relaxed instead of overpowering anything.
And somehow the entire thing just fits the beach perfectly.
The band transitions into a laid-back acoustic version of an old yacht rock song while the crowd sways softly near the shoreline.
“You’re smiling,” Jane teases while looking up at you.
“What?”
“You get this look whenever live music shows up,” she replies softly.
You laugh quietly because honestly?
She’s completely right.
Music always gets you.
Especially this kind.
The relaxed atmosphere. The acoustic arrangements. The feeling of people just existing together around music for a little while.
It reminds you a little too much of home honestly.
Of gigs.
Of rehearsals.
Of late nights playing for small crowds where everybody’s just there to have a good time.
The band transitions smoothly again afterward into a beachy acoustic country cover, one of the guitarists taking lead vocals while the other harmonizes beside him.
Immediately Jane lights up.
“Oh wait I know this one,” she says excitedly before pulling slightly closer against your side.
Of course she does.
A second later she’s softly singing along under her breath while sunlight catches warmly across her face and ocean wind pushes lightly through her hair.
And honestly?
Watching HER enjoy the music almost becomes better than the music itself.
At one point during the chorus she grabs your hand and sways both of you lightly side to side in the sand while laughing quietly at herself.
“You’re being adorable right now,” you tease softly.
“I’m having an EXPERIENCE,” Jane argues dramatically.
“You’re emotionally attached to beach acoustics now?”
“Yes,” she replies confidently. “And I refuse to apologize.”
You laugh quietly while pulling her a little closer against your side anyway.
The next song shifts more into slow R&B territory after that, stripped down into soft acoustic guitar and percussion while the ocean rolls steadily behind the band. The atmosphere somehow gets even warmer afterward as the crowd settles into the music more comfortably.
A couple nearby starts slow dancing barefoot in the sand.
Jane notices immediately.
“Aww,” she says softly.
You glance down at her. “You wanna dance too?”
Her cheeks warm slightly before she smiles.
“Maybe later,” Jane replies quietly.
Unfortunately the image of that immediately stays in your brain.
The band keeps playing for another few songs after that.
Country.
Soft yacht rock covers.
Old beach songs everybody somehow knows the words to.
And the entire time Jane stays comfortably tucked against your side while both of you listen together beneath the sunlight and ocean breeze.
Eventually though, one of the musicians thanks the crowd before announcing a short break between sets.
People begin clapping while others step forward toward the open guitar case sitting near the microphones.
Without really thinking about it, you pull your wallet out.
Jane notices immediately.
“Oh,” she says softly while smiling at you. “Baby…”
You shrug a little while walking closer toward the front.
Honestly?
You know how much even small tips matter playing gigs like this.
Especially for local musicians.
The guitar case already has scattered cash sitting inside beside a few folded bills and handwritten business cards.
You crouch slightly before dropping money into the case anyway.
One of the guitarists notices immediately and smiles toward you.
“Appreciate it, man,” he says warmly.
You nod once. “You guys sound great.”
Behind you, Jane watches the interaction with the softest expression imaginable while ocean wind moves gently through her hair beneath the sunlight.
And honestly?
Something about the entire moment feels weirdly important.

The Girlfriend Effect
Your life with your girlfriend
Your girlfriend is clingy, flirty, always-all-over-you. It’s the kind of relationship where your girlfriend is basically attached to your side 24/7. She steals your hoodies, acts seductive whenever she gets the chance, and hides how exhausted she really is from nursing school and nonstop work shifts. Between late night drives, random dates, movie nights, trips together, shared showers, and lazy mornings half asleep in bed. The story follows all the small everyday moments in the relationship as it slowly gets deeper and more personal over time. The choices you make affect how emotionally and physically close the two of you become. You can comfort her when nursing school gets overwhelming, flirt with her during quieter moments, help her through stressful days, or lean harder into your sex life of the relationship as the story progresses.
