Do you go pick them up?
Be a good mum
As I got in the taxi to head home, though, I noticed something that made my stomach clench with unease.
Tyrone was outside the restaurant, chatting with our waitress, Jessica. They were standing close together, talking in low voices, and though I couldn’t make out what they were saying, it was obvious that their conversation was intimate.
My heart began to pound, a sick feeling welling up inside of me as I watched them interact. Were they… flirting with each other?
I told myself I was being ridiculous, that there was no way Tyrone would do that to me. But as the taxi pulled away from the curb and I caught one last glimpse of the pair, I couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off.
Despite my tiredness, I found it impossible to fall asleep that night. My mind was spinning, thoughts of Tyrone and Jessica playing on repeat as I tossed and turned in bed.
Finally, after hours of lying awake, I gave up on the idea of getting any rest. Climbing out from beneath the covers, I made my way into the kitchen to make myself a cup of tea, hoping the ritual would help calm my mind.
As I waited for the kettle to boil, I found my thoughts straying back to Tyrone. I had really been falling for him, had allowed myself to believe that what we had might actually last.
But now? Now, I just wasn’t so sure. Seeing him with Jessica had brought all of my old insecurities rushing back to the surface, and I couldn’t help but wonder if he was losing interest in me.
The thought caused an ache to form in my chest, a pang of sadness washing over me. If Tyrone didn’t want me anymore, I would be heartbroken. But I also knew that I deserved better than to be cheated on or strung along.
