How will you give feedback?
Be Unsure
“Well, I’m not sure what to say. I mean, it sounds okay to me but I’ve never been to a burlesque show.”
You watch as Liz seems to deflate, letting out a long sigh. She moves over to the couch and falls heavily onto the cushions, putting her hands under her chin. All the excitement she had earlier has left her.
“Great. Okay. Thanks Connor.”
You try to salvage the situation.
“But that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t keep working on it. Maybe I can help you film it and then you can ask your friend for pointers. Or I can read up on it online. I’m sure there are community posts for beginners... somewhere.”
Liz stands up and so do you. You follow her lead as she heads into the kitchen to pour herself a glass of water.
“No, that’s okay. I’m note sure why I thought this would be helpful.”
It stings to hear that you’ve let her down in that way.
“You can head home, I don’t want to waste any more of your time. I’ll just keep working on it at my own pace.”
“Okay Liz, if that’s what you want.”
You head out the door and hear your friend lock it behind you. You make your way home, feeling both rejected and guilty for raining on her parade. As the days pass and Saturday comes around again you aren’t sure if she’s kept working on her routine. You don’t get invited back.
